I have to say it….. Lawrence KS is a college town. A location of progressive thinking, new concepts and inclusion. College towns in America are as necessary to our future as ripening crops in our farm fields. We must continue the fight of our lives to keep knowledge and enlightenment as the top priority for our country and the world. We will perish without institutes of higher learning.🥰🕊️🇺🇸

Ruth, thank you so much for your insightful comment. I agree, without college towns we lose the young dreamers who go forward with fresh ideas to make our country stronger and to make our citizens prosper.

Have a hopeful day. Save our democracy…. WE CAN!!!!

I agree. I am 71 years old. I welcome what the young people bring to us.

Too many older generations are afraid of new, fresh ideas. So terribly shortsighted.

This brought tears to my eyes. It just goes to show you that 95% of Americans are good hearted and kind, quietly doing things the rest of the country knows nothing about. It's the other 5% who make up the bigots, racists, mysoginists, homophobes and narcissists who get on the news and spread fear and lies. We are on to them now. Thank you for the Good News!!

I’m with you, my eyes are still wet. It’s thrilling to know these things are happening, and thanks to Adam for bringing it to our attention. So often these genuine acts of kindness and love are not known to the rest of us.

Ms. Birkenfeld, I often agree completely with your comments, but this one - I wish I had written it myself!

A proud Kansan — and American — says thank you for this story. We have not changed who we are.

This story made my heart feel so good. Yes, this is the America I know and is still out there!

Wow! Buried in bad, air-sucking news, I can scarcely believe what you wrote, Adam. Is it still possible that Americans can, in noteworthy numbers, embrace differences, become entwined in each others' cultures to celebrate! His is the country I want to live in, the one that this administration has worked tirelessly to wrest away from us. I wish ever media group, except, of course Faux News, would pick up this story! It's one reason DJT and his minions want to destroy universities. I worked at one. They aren't perfect, but what is. Is this administration perfect, as they would like us to believe, as their supporters would like us to believe? I think that's a resounding NO.

I read some of this to my husband and choked up while reading it aloud. This is what America should always be. Thank you for writing this.

What a great story!! I was totally unaware our little communities were welcoming other countries’ soccer teams. When we open our communities to other people, cultures, religions, etc., we learn SO much. We find so much in common. Our politicians try so hard to tear us apart. This is one way we can overcome their divisiveness!!

Thank you, Adam, for reminding us of who we are and our humanity which is still out there. We only need to believe in each other.
