Think about it…what other job would have any of these women?

M. A. Porter's avatar

I can think of two career fields. One is trophy wife, the other is also prostitution.

Francoise Guay's avatar

Yes, they probably are victims, but they're also shrewd

M. A. Porter's avatar

Oxford online dictionary: "Shrewd" is an adjective that means having or showing sharp powers of judgment, practical cleverness, or astute discernment. // These women are NOT shrewd.

Francoise Guay's avatar

Sorry, I might have missed the subtlety. I wanted to point that they know where their interests are and act on it no matter how base

Anon's avatar

Julie - Depending on the outcome of the Tate brothers trials they might have a job opening. Don’t get me wrong - what the brothers are doing is disgusting - but these women seem just as “programmed” as the women who defend what those brothers do to the women in their lives.

Kelly Kirsch's avatar

They embarrass us, these women

Barbara Andree's avatar

These women are perfect examples of women victimized by white supremacist patriarchy, having a "look" that pleases 47, and with no self-awareness like so many of the cult followers.

It's Come To This's avatar

Victims, my butt. They're enjoying every second of the limelight. Perpetrators and accomplices. A big difference...

Agreed, ICTT. They all have agency. Casting them as victims is paternalistic and insulting. Leavitt loved what she was doing. And let’s not forget Huckabee during 45 or Harp now, though not a press secretary. They all have huge ambition, and like their main man, no idea that truth matters or that in the long run decency pays.

Anita Falasco's avatar

Yes, and now Huckabee is fighting for her life to keep her Governorship after breaking every rule imaginable. Hopefully, Arkansans will vote her out and will have a serious Governor.

EUWDTB's avatar

You seem to confound dependence on outer approval with real happiness...

EUWDTB's avatar

I agree that they're victims, but the perpetrators aren't necessarily white supremacists. These women grew up in an era where neocon fake news was already flooding their screens - combined with the constant cultivation of negative emotions caused by unregulated social media consumption.

And as a progressive, I cannot but add the fact that they're probably also victims of "wokism" which told them to just go along with their own feelings rather than questioning them and, whenever they're contrary to facts or profound moral values, rejecting them.

In other words, yes, they're are victims. But victims of a US society which, as a whole, lost some of the main pillars that any democracy needs to survive.

Barbara Andree's avatar

I disagree. These 47 Cult Followers are not victims of a broken US society or being encouraged to go along with their feelings (I'm not sure that's the definition of Woke), nor are they smart enough to understand the tenants of being neocon. They are deeply indoctrinated in the "christian" culture with Katie being a past president of College Republicans and the Christian Legal Society. They've been well-groomed to serve their masters (white men and Jesus).

Margaret Staneff's avatar

Now, I have to disagree. The MAGA "Christian culture" as you like to call it, is actually "Christian Nationalism" which isn't the same thing as being a Christian at all. It's a political movement, using a religion to promote & perpetuate a political narrative and national control.

The bible doesn't support being a blind sheep following a bad man off a cliff.

That's what they're doing.

Jesus isn't who these folks are following. Otherwise they would try and do as He said they should do.. And they don't.

They would value truth, and they don't.

They would value peace and self control and they don't. They LOVE that Trump is a sh*t poster & a war monger. They don't mind that he's a liar.

They would care for the poor and they don't. At all. Even though many of them are rather poor themselves.

What makes them a cult is their unfailing love for Trump. And their inability to see the truth. They believe him over anything written in the New Testament.

They go to church, they pray to Jesus BUT they worship Trump.

That's the truth.

Leslie Olsen's avatar

Looky what AI just told me: The "win at any cost" doctrine among Republicans is often associated with the ideological shift that occurred during the 1994 Republican Revolution. This shift emphasized prioritizing electoral success and political power over traditional conservative principles

Anon's avatar

Leslie - Whoops…if this gets out then they will say that it’s hallucinating and will promptly “fix” it so that the answer lines up with what they are selling. ;)

EUWDTB's avatar

Wokism obviously only tells "victims of social injustice" to just go along with their feelings (and then constantly blame others for them, rather than training themselves in developing emotional intelligence and then use that to practice what MLK Jr. put at the heart of the fight for social justice, namely learning to "love your enemies").

And indeed, "cult followers", as you want to call victims like Zacharia, obviously do not know they ARE being brainwashed. They definitely also don't know that it all started with the neocon GOP already.

I wasn't trying to describe THEIR (by definition extremely limited) understanding of their own predicament, I was trying to explain how people can become victims in this way instead.

And yes, you're right, a fundamentalist and therefore hollowed-out form of religion also plays a huge role in this kind of brainwashing. But then you have to admit that it's NOT 47 who put them into this cult in the first place, no?

Barbara Andree's avatar

47 has cashed in (literally) on the previously groomed, from whatever source they've come. He's taken that ball and run down the field and is almost ready to make a touchdown (complete destruction of our political & economic systems). Ms. Z will be an excellent cheerleader/pawn.

EUWDTB's avatar

If we only focus on this or that individual (whether Trump or Zacharia or Thiel or anyone else), we won't see the bigger societal trends that led to the current situation, nor be able to predict the next step in the installation of neofascism in this country (and therefore around the world).

That's why imho it's good to put what Zacharia does in a broader light - all while condemning it very strongly, of course.

They are idiots blindly following dump

These women are actors. Playing a part. WHAT they say matters much less than HOW they say it, and do they LOOK good? It's paid to play. Their transparency is a slimy film on all women. We have two more years of this junk, then we will clean house. Agree with Adam -- the horizon is short for these morons but the denouement is long. (I am a retired woman journalist/communications consultant, BTW)

It's Come To This's avatar

The blondes paid to look blonde. The Kegsbreaths paid to look...manly. Both as phony as rubber $3 bills.

These aren't real people -- they're doctored-up glam-porn for Trump's amusement.

As Jonathan Larsen wrote this morning:

"The forever lies neither started nor will end with Trump. Kudos to corporate media for debunking them, when they do, but stinky doodies on corporate media for reporting the lies before debunking them.

"The story isn’t the lie. The story is Republican lies. So don’t report the lie until you know whether it’s a lie and if it is then the story is that Republicans lie."

EUWDTB's avatar

Exactly, it's crucial to understand this.

Michael Otter's avatar

Welcome to the Liar's Club, Katie. I hope you enjoy working for the world's biggest liar while you surrender your ethics and integrity to perpetuate Trump and his administration's lies. White House Press Secretary sounds impressive, but it comes with a price. I hope you are willing to pay that price.

Susheila Khera's avatar

Unfortunately, perpetuating Trump’s word might be the highest ethical standard Katie can imagine.

Anon's avatar

Michael - The way that T leers at Harp as she walks away from him (in other words - watching her backside) I don’t understand why any woman would want that kind of attention from a man like him. I’m guess that I’m old fashioned because I prefer men and women to respect each other as opposed to wanting to possess the other person.

Karen Valerio's avatar

Good. Anyone who works for him should be shunned from any meaningful work afterward.

Margaret Staneff's avatar

What person with a brain would want to be part of this?? History will not be kind to any of them. Or those that supported and lied for Trump. Or Trump himself.

Jane in NC's avatar

Does anybody really care who the newest Mouth of Sauron is? The lies are the same no matter who's spewing them.

Candace Bartsch's avatar

Awwww poor Scott Jennings. He 🤢 have a chance, did he! He wasn't blonde, blue eyed, and rumps type of female. YUCK!!

Maria K.'s avatar

I am with you - I don't understand two things: 1) who would want this job; 2) why anyone bothers covering Trump anyway? Via himself or his press secretary? He never says anything newsworthy, he lies all the time, he insults journalists - especially women. He kicked everyone out of the White House and now he is having the networks investigated. Fine. Don't cover him. Go completely video- and audio-silent on him. Like he doesn't exist.

Susheila Khera's avatar

For a long time, I thought we needed to hear what he had to say so that we would know. But he just mushes out the same old drivel. Not covering him sounds like a good option. He manipulates the world with his whiplash approach to everything.

Adam, the only thing I can think of is that these human barnacles are signing up and hanging on betting that the post-Trump MAGA-verse will be a source of lucrative deals - books, blogs, merch, etc.

Sandra Humble Johnson's avatar

Love it . . . "human barnacles." Thank you, Andrew. The phrase lightens my day.

Randy Scott's avatar

The devoted, dumb, and delusional person might want that job, djt?

Regina Peruggi's avatar

There really are no words!

Dan's avatar

Why wouldn’t a flake want this job? The qualifications: blind loyalty to Trump, the ability to lie on the fly, and a talent for gaslighting the public. Ask her about the war and we may get the Dow Jones report. Ignoring reality is a plus. In fact, this article shows she’s overqualified, and she can always go back to Newsmax or OAN.
