Agree, but I must inject a small dose of reality. The two LSDs my husband served on from 1968 to 1972 were not without issues. The ships lacked adequate facilities for 300 sailors + 330 marines. My husband said the heads were always a mess and there were cockroaches in the food! Of course, you had to wait hours in line to eat. My husband alway came home much thinner after a deployment.🤷♂️

I wonder if some issues are common because of huge, steel ships in water, maybe also in hot, humid weather, hundreds of human beings crammed into said ship needing food, water, proper toilets, etc., etc.? My only second-hand "experience" with the military camp from what little my dad would say about serving on Okinawa during WW2. My brother-in-law was killed in Vietnam after only 8 mos. in the Army, but he did talk about the miserable hot, humid, everything wet climate, plus the misery of being in the jungle on patrol. In fact, that's how he was killed -- he was the point guy leading his platoon and was shot by a Vietnamese sniper.

While Trump was cheating on his SAT, my dad was acing boot camp in Great Lakes and on his way to San Diego. He was on a naval ship in the middle of the Pacific when I was born. He was a F18 Super Hornet pilot, a graduate of Annapolis. Our family worried about him constantly

How valid is the article today using Iranian news of 7 sailors died on the Lincoln due to a fight? Rather sad I would believe Iran over Hegseth. But, I have never believed alcoholics. Nothing is in the news about these deaths.

Cat - Considering that they moved the latest KIA into a “separate column” and aren’t reporting injuries anymore because it looks bad for them I don’t believe anything that this administration says or does. Yep, I tend to believe Iranian news over ours but I do take it with a grain of salt.
There is nothing in our news. I do check overseas papers regularly and nothing there either. Just this one in substack
Cat - You aren’t wrong. I subscribe to multiple news sites that send me an email form about what they are reporting on and quite a few Substack sites (I get the free version except for three that I feel are worthy of a paid subscription) just so I can get a better understanding of what is actually going on in the world today. It’s pretty telling that most of these are not the “normal” news sites like Washington Post or other big news outlets. If they were bought out by some rich person who refuses to report the actual news then I don’t bother with them.

I am blown away by people who think they know better, people who think our soldiers should”man up” are people to afraid to join, they sit on their perch and pass judgement. How DARE they!! Trump has almost 1 billion dollars for his vanity projects yet he claims the military needs 1.5 trillion dollars. This lunatic empty minded man is a dangerous disgraced to the men and women who serve. He’s made 140 million dollars in his complaint against ABC and CBS. He’s a traitor and a criminal and a liar. His empty brain is not worth the time to hear him lie. That’s the only thing he’s good at. Lie lying and a liar. Period. The corruption is rampant and his respect for the military is nonexistent, after all he’s called them suckers and losers, he still feels like that. As long as he’s not close to the fighting he doesn’t care about those who are!

100%. My dad is 8 months older than Trump. Enlisted, with his parents having to sign, when he was 17. While Trump was cheating on his SAT, my dad was acing boot camp in Great Lakes and on his way to San Diego. He was on a naval ship in the middle of the Pacific when I was born. He served so others didn't have to. Trump should have some damned respect.

My nephew served on the USSDwight Eisenhower 2020 Deployment (January 2020 – August 2020): A nearly 7-month deployment where the strike group broke consecutive days-at-sea records (logging 206 consecutive days at sea) while supporting operations in the Middle East, during which the Gunslingers flew over 1,800 sorties and 3,350 flight hours. He was a F18 Super Hornet pilot, a graduate of Annapolis. Our family worried about him constantly
And his wife and children were desperate for his return. I salute the sailors on the Lincoln and wish them safe home. No one who knows anything about carrier deployments would ever tell them to “Man Up”.
