Adam the pain in my heart and this incessant racism in this country. I have no words to express my huge disappointment and sadness in how far we've fallen into that abyss. We are so much better than that, and yet so many continue to behave/operate at the lowest level of humanity. 😢
Everyone keeps saying “we are better than this”. Obviously there is quite a majority of white people that aren’t and it’s unfortunately something we need to own up to! We haven’t fallen, we never rose…….we need to overcome this outright racism that has always been here and at different times is more out in the open depending on politics. Fuckwit Trump certainly gives permission to racists to “let it all hang out”.
"White people" is absurd. And delusional. Every human alive today has DNA that traces back to a handful of primates in Africa a few hundred thousand years ago. News alert for the white racists, your ancestors were not white.
The human brain has a strong capacity to notice similarities and differences. So the lighter skinned humans (a spectrum of melanin levels) notice the darker skinned humans as "different"from themselves and claim superiority. And some of them claim the right to arrest and imprison women and children because they have brown skin. Stupid.
7 Billion of the 8 Billion humans alive right now have a skin color other than "white". Light skinned humans are a small minority in the world. Small brained white humans think they are the majority!
China and India each have more people in their "middle class" than the entire population of the United States. We have an isolated, myopic view of our country. Travel to Europe and witness the abundance of moneyed tourists from India and China. Yes, the US currently has a dominant GDP in the world. But the failures of our leadership are opening the door for many nations to surpass us. "Stupid is as stupid does."
If you took a group of Israeli kids, and Palestinian kids, all dressed the same you couldn't tell them apart. Bud for Israel, Biden and Trump there is a difference, worth mass killing. Different language, different religion.
What a travesty. Nonsense. Twisted. Sad. Its a public university. They are so happy ( it was an incredible game ). And this picture showing sheer joy and happiness from the student body, causes some cowardly, small minded people to show their fear publicly. The only colors that mattered that day were the school colors.
You bear me to it, Dina. I wonder how many of those bigots are willing to hand the deed to their homes over to a Native American since they were here first. The Southwest was a part of Mexico previously, and the white settlers were "invaders" who started a war to overthrow Mexican governance of the land they stole. Some serious cognitive dissonance there.
Exactly. Texas was Mexico for several years. Before that part of New Spain. Became a state in 1845. People really don't understand that borders are created by man and war. Most of us who are of European descent have no idea (especially the racists) the stories of their ancestors and how and why they ended up here to begin with. And that humans have migrated all over the world since the beginning of time. No land belongs to anyone IMO. And that was our downfall as humans. Migrated, took over lands, and then elevated someone into power to make sure we held onto wherever we landed. And then that power went from benevolent to malevolent. Adam is right America is not a race, and it is not even a culture because of the melting pot the culture itself is a weaving of many. Most people forgot where they came from.
Unfortunately, history and logic mean nothing to the racists who "rule" our country! And we know that they have no understanding of irony. Beware the ignorant!
Just what I was thinking. And if you go back into the reality if human history you'll find out roots in (gulp) Africa! And not as (ahem) white skinned humans. But those rabid racists would never understand believe or accept that black roots are actually in their actual DNA and blood.
absolutely everyone should run there DNA. My motherline traces back to Ancient Persia despite being "Italian". Another place that wasn't a country until 1896 with people who came from all over the world throughout history. Most "100% Italians" are absolutely not indigenous to that land. Those tribes were wiped out by the Romans and others, again over land claims and power.
True, and yet there was a also a lot more learning from and respect for Indigenous people than we've been taught. See, e.g., the series of carefully researched, fascinating books in the "Honoring the Circle" series by Stephen M. Sachs et al. Our democratic government is, in large part, modeled after Indigenous forms, with various checks and balances.
However, the Indigenous governments included women as agents, not passive bystanders, as our earlier versions did. One might argue that that and not regarding all people as people(!) planted the seeds of our downfall, which we can see happening all around us.
Dina - Thank you! You just saved everyone else from me going off on a tangent about how much I want to scream when I hear people try to claim white privilege while ignoring history.
Most of these people ignore basic literacy. And even most history of course was written by white men. To expect any of these folks to actually do some research from the perspective of the oppressed is asking way too much. This also weaves into religious history in a big way. Something the Nationalists also know nothing about. Their own religion's history and the patriarchal constructs of religions and government want it that way.
I entirely agree. Our Native American populations are mostly brown skinned. They were here first. The rest of us, all of the white population come from families of immigrants no matter when they first arrived (mine in the late 1600’s from religious persecution.). We should all take joy from our diversity—it is what should make our country great. It should help us learn about other cultures and traditions—that can be a fascinating study. Contributions to our knowledge, our sciences, come from people of all colors and both sexes. It is very sad when people don’t acknowledge that, they are limiting their world and denying others their rights to be human.
I grew up in Florida in the 70s and 80s. I heard this exact argument then. Bumper stickers that read, "Will the last American out of Miami, please bring the flag."
It was racist then, it's still racist now.
Ignorant bigots like French do this country no favors.
The sad thing is, he's nothing new.
What we can do is keep reminding people what it means to BE Americans.
To be welcoming. To be fair. To recognize the benefits these people bring to our country.
Yes, French and his ilk have always been here, and they exist all over the world. Our problem now is that they are running our country! It's not their existence is new but that they are now in charge of what used to be a well respected, law-based America.
bingo! trump empowered them and brought them out from under the rocks where they were after the Civil Rights Movement. Society shunned them and the only way society can get them out of power is to vote them out and shun them again
That is a pretty broad brush you're using there. Not all of us. MAGA took over the party and we are fighting to take it back. I despise Donffrey Trumpstein and his spineless MAGA acolytes as much as anybody, and will be voting the straight Democratic ticket to hopefully clean out the GOP barn of any MAGA sympathizers.
Sure do. There are a lot of republicans attending No Kings rallies here in Maryland. I attend every one I can, usually two or three a day. It is better to attend local rallies than the big ones in DC, etc, because it shows that it's not only "big city liberals" that oppose trumpstein, especially when the local events are in red counties.
Next is Defiance.org, led by former National Security advisor in Trump 1.0, Miles Taylor, a Libertarian Republican and author of "A Warning" that exposed the BS and illegal activity in trumpstein's first administration. He and his is podcast partner Xander Schultz constantly push for resistance to trumpstein's corruption. I am one of the "Defy Ants" of the organization. Our meetings have been attended by Adam Kinzinger, Robert DiNiro, Rosie O'Donnell, JoJo from Jerz, Steve Schmidt, Jim Acosta, Michael Fanone, Harry Dunn, Daniel Hodges, Aquilino Gunnell, many former and present congresspeople, and many, many more.
Next is Olivia Troye, Mike Pence's National Security Advisor and Tara Setmayer, a former Republican Hill staffer and fervent anti-trumper who are working with all of us to defeat trumpstein,. Both Olivia and Tara are on Substack.
There is a lot more activity, but I don't want to write a wall of text here. Go to Substack and look these folks up.
I think it’s clear that the party is demonstrably racist. But putting that aside, what aspects of the Republican Party do you identify with? That’s a serious question because I and others are struggling to understand why anyone would want an R behind their name in 2026.
I am Libertarian, supporting low flat tax with a broad base and zero deductions, with all income being treated the same. No loopholes or shelters. Everybody pays something, and the "rich" would pay a hell of a lot more than they do now. I support keeping the government out of our everyday lives, including who we love. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own. I support bodily autonomy with "One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone" as a primary tenet. I support the concept that beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
These USED to be the Republican ideals. Republicanism is an idea, not a cult, that used to believe in freedom and the Constitution. Remember, Lincoln was a Republican. The current GOP is not conservative in their beliefs, nor are they the Republican party that I joined in 1976. THEY are the RINOs. Leaving the Republican party to join another just leaves the party to all the crazies, like we have today. You can't change it from the outside. I do my best to support candidates that uphold my beliefs during the primary season. If they don't make it through and some MAGA whack job does, I vote blue to clean out the barn.
= Jackass. A pea-brain with "French" as a last name whose own ancestors didn't come here with a single piece of paper, whining about other cultures taking over his beloved Amurricuh.
Adam I am from the generation who faced quotas when applying to university, exclusion from certain social groups( sororities) that could not get recommendations from their national to include me- but was a second generation American. So I am aware and concerned about the direction our country is taking. Thank you for covering this . As Jane Elliott says, we are all members of the human race- there is no black, brown, red or yellow race. Wake up America. And Freedom of religion was built into our founding documents. To be the best we must support the best of all of us.
Adam - again, I’m imploring you…please run for President in 2028. While Harris is a nice person and smart, she’s political dynamite and shouldn’t even think about running. And Gavin missed his opportunity in ‘24. And in the last couple of years has acquired a kind of slick back smarminess that independents just won’t accept Remember, JFK was only 43 when he ran. Now is your time, man. Seize the day.
Agree with you! Adam? If not you, who? I think Harris would have made an excellent president, and I'm not just comparing what it would be like with her and not DJT. However, I think that both she and Gavin have too much baggage to sweep broadly, which is what we'll need, assuming we start the take-back of our country this November.
Not really shocked about the persistence of racism in this country. Some folks just need someone to be "the other" so they can blame them for all their faults and problems.
Perhaps not the BEST place to quote a Canadian band 😄, but as RUSH said:
"blame is better to give than receive."
If nothing is your fault, then it MUST be because of others...and if you're white and a more-qualified nonwhite gets the accolade, it is CLEARLY because they were given DEI preference. (Anyone ELSE amused that nepo-babies Don Jr, Eric, and Ivanka are LITERALLY "D,E,I"?)
I mean, that's SO much "better" to believe than "they were more qualified."
One point to expand upon that you did intimate but maybe too nuanced for some: automatic entrance to the top tier scholars....interesting that there are more brown kids than white...
And has for decades, leading to generations who have little knowledge of history and little exposure to other cultures. They never learned we all, globally, have more in common than we differ on.
Thank you, Adam, for calling this what it is. A travesty indeed. How shameful. How un-American. These students are more American than Bo French. Unfortunately, this is not new. This has been the underbelly of the GOP for a long time. Enough!
Agreed. They never before have run our country! That's what's made this time so fraught, losing our reputation around the world and settling into a lawless state to do the bidding of one autocrat.
I have no words for this. Instead of asking French to take the post down, the Republican Party should have thrown him to the curb and pulled all support.
Racism is the only thing uniting Republicans these days. All the non-racist Republicans have decamped and are Dems or Independents. Geez, Bill Kristol is practically a progressive!! The Republican party is dead. As Stuart Stevens said, "It was all a lie."
So absolutely sick of this type of racism and the attention legacy medias give to such trash. Growing up in Texas since 1950's, I have lived with racists ideology forever. Fought with my parents until the day they died over their racism. I honestly do not think this will go away in my lifetime. Make sure everyone checks their voter registration especially in you live in Texas. They have suspended or removed over 1 million people from the voting rolls. Thank you Adam for expressing so well what most of us are thinking.
I see America too and I love this America. I lived in Texas and other Southern states for almost a decade and the racism was alive and well then, just as ever. I always felt they were waiting for a time when they could take their KKK robes out of their closets to don on and wear openly. Trump has given them the OK to do just that.
Alyce - Not disagreeing with you at all…but I seem to look at it as if they have decided that the robes are too hot and the hoods are too suffocating so they are just doing it without donning them at all now a days. Before you could see them coming from a mile away dressed in white but now you have to catch them when they open their mouths and utter their bs. Yes, T gave them the permission that they have been waiting for and for some reason too many other people gave them a pass to think that it was okay.
Yeah. Remember his, “Good people on both sides” comment? How in god’s name can there be two diametrically opposite entities, one being sane while the other is pure evil and still have good in both? The evil heard him and ran with it.

Beautiful, Kathy. You speak for millions of us. 💔
Everyone keeps saying “we are better than this”. Obviously there is quite a majority of white people that aren’t and it’s unfortunately something we need to own up to! Agreed; we are quite obviously not "better than this" because the cancer that is racism continues to spread.
"White people" is absurd. And delusional. Every human alive today has DNA that traces back to a handful of primates in Africa a few hundred thousand years ago. News alert for the white racists, your ancestors were not white.

Well if it was really organized around blood then us White folk should be gone and the land should be given back to the indigenous people.
You bear me to it, Dina. I wonder how many of those bigots are willing to hand the deed to their homes over to a Native American since they were here first. That was my first thought, too. If those students don’t belong here, according to racists, neither do we white people.
yes Dina.. with brown skin!!
Totally right.

Actually, there is no such thing as "black people" or "white people" ... we are ALL just varying shades of brown!

November….November…..November…. Let’s start taking the helm back in the midterms and flip the script. White nationalism has no place in real America.
Republican = Racist
Prove me wrong
While increasingly hard to separate Republicans from MAGA, I'd agree that MAGA = Racist
MAGA is the Republican Party. That seems crystal clear to me. If I am wrong, please educate me.
It really is a low level of thinking.
Please explain. I’m listening.
That is a pretty broad brush you're using there. Not all of us. MAGA took over the party and we are fighting to take it back. Trump typically redefines and also muddles the viewpoints. He lives by gaslighting his way through life.
