I read Liz Cheney's book. Her integrity has had more impact on me directly than anything Collins has ever done. Collins' legacy will be minus zero, one of capitulation to an evil, corrupt dictator-wannabe, one that threw the Constitution away. Cheney's legacy is up there with Adam Kinzinger's shining a light on the traitors to America. Also, as a woman who supports pro-choice and pro-women, I will never forgive her support of Brett Kavanaugh, also a traitor to our Constitution.
Susan Collins' rationalizations are exactly why we, as a country, need to blunt the power of the two primary political parties. Here is a woman who claims to have done the right things, but in order to "stay relevant" and have influence, she is compromising herself to remain in good graces with the party. When the party becomes more important than the constitution, shouldn't it be impeached too? Time to eliminate the primaries and caucuses, allow anyone who gets an agreed upon percent of the electorate in the related jurisdiction to be listed on a position randomized ballot, and move towards ranked choice voting.

She tried to work with Biden on a Covid bill and he said no. Biden and the Dems instead passed the first single party Covid relief bill that added 2-3% to inflation on top of what Covid had caused. She worked to get the hard infrastructure bill across the finish line which would not have happened had Biden and Pelosi succeeded in attaching the BBB (which would have further exacerbated inflation). No Senator should be defined by a handful of votes when they have served not for their own glory but for the good of their state and the country. Perhaps she has been in the Senate too long. You can criticize her for that.

She led on the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that brought millions of mental health dollars to schools. THAT is principled voting.

Collins voted against several Trump loyalists who supported his fascist Project 2025 agenda, nwhen her vote wouldn't change the outcome: McMahon, Gabbard, Vought (architect of Project 2025), Turner, and Schwartz when her vote didn't change the outcome. She voted against Patel when her vote didn't matter. She also voted against Hegseth,knowing that Vance would save him with the tiebreaker. Collins is savvy and all of the Senators know how the votes will go before the vote is taken. It is only the public who is sometimes unsure until the actual vote. I have very mixed feelings about Susan Collins. I vehemently oppose much of her politics and, more importantly, I think her reputation as a moderate has sometimes allowed her to receive more credit than her overall voting record warrants.
That said, I don't think it's intellectually honest to dismiss everything she does. I give her genuine credit for co-authoring the Electoral Count Reform Act with Joe Manchin. After January 6, clarifying the vice president's limited role in certifying electoral votes and making it more difficult to overturn a state's certified results was important democratic housekeeping. That was a meaningful bipartisan achievement.
I also think her work with Patty Murray on appropriations is a legitimate example of what Congress is supposed to look like. They managed to negotiate bipartisan spending bills and restore something resembling a functioning appropriations process. I can respect that without suddenly becoming a Susan Collins supporter.
My problem is that bipartisan cooperation on individual issues doesn't erase the larger record. For me, the question isn't simply, "Has Susan Collins occasionally done something I agree with?" Of course she has. The more important question is whether, when democracy and fundamental rights are actually at stake, her votes and influence consistently match the moderate, independent image she projects.

But they don't tell the whole story. About how much of that money has been stalled or stripped by the laws that do Trump's dirty work that she voted for. How she is a champion for rural health care and yet we still see rural hospitals and clinics shutting down every week. And I'm frustrated with my fellow Mainers who are duped by all this.

People should be tired by now of all of “ Susan Collin’s concern “. It’s getting old, just like Trump. She’s always concerned and then when it counts she capitulates and votes with him. It’s time the people in Maine ought to try something different. What has she done to stop ICE nothing. What has she done when it counted on “ The Big Beautiful Bill”. What has she done to protect health care for the people in Maine by her vote on Kennedy”. …the Supreme Court….there are plenty of times she could have made a difference and didn’t and she has the nerve to say Liz Cheney has no influence…that’s really rich. Liz Cheney left politics with her character, her soul and her principles intact like you which is worth more that Susan Collin’s do nothing seat at the table.
Thank you, Adam! I live in Maine and pray for the day when she is out of office. The ads she is running here make my blood boil, about all the money she has appropriated for the state. But they don't tell the whole story. About how much of that money has been stalled or stripped by the laws that do Trump's dirty work that she voted for. How she is a champion for rural health care and yet we still see rural hospitals and clinics shutting down every week. And I'm frustrated with my fellow Mainers who are duped by all this.
