By all means, impeach Hegseth for all the reasons Adam outlines, but leave impeachment at that for awhile thereafter and try to get some laws written in and passed that directly address the economic issues facing us. Also, while not jumping to impeaching many, DOESN'T mean not investigating, especially the pervasive corruption of Trump and his minions. Investigate thoroughly, then act.

We need Dems to make smart decisions all the way through, investigating the corruption and getting some good laws on the books. If we don't also take the Senate, it will be difficult to get much passed, but any progress would be progress.
And meanwhile: is there any way that a majority of house members - Democrats plus a few Republicans whose seats are about to be lost -could overrule the speaker? Seems to me during Trump-1 Republicans did workarounds during recesses to confirm appointments or otherwise do the bidding of their president. How was that accomplished? Is there no way to simply have a vote of no confidence and elect a new speaker right now?

I don’t know anything about how Congress works when they are in recess. I only know that no one has done anything to remove this president and his administration even while they were working (if you can call it that). These elected officials have it way too good!! We give them a salary of about 174,000.00, plus benefits!!! This is ALL they should get!! That alone is a lot more than the average person makes!!! However, with all the donations they receive, these people are making so much more!!! Then you have some Republicans like Virginia Fox and Greasley, who are both probably in their eighties who, like other Republicans, are kissing the ring!!! Seriously? Give me a break!!! Look at Mitch McConnell for Gods sake. This is proof that they have it too good!! These people don’t want to leave!! They will expire first!!!! Sorry, I went off on a tangent!!! I was also an Army ROTC scholarship cadet (i.e., committed to the Army). When we returned to campus in September 1974, our cadre explained the Constitutional nature of what had happened to us. What Hegseth (and Trump) have done is far worse than what Nixon did.
Having served as a local government administrator I fully comprehend the tension you write about. This solemn responsibility should trickle down from the highest office in the land to the lowest.
