Loving the good news! Keep it coming!

I wonder why I cannot even read this today. My brain is overcome with dread of being let down again by the results of the mid-term. I do not think my heart can take much more disappointment. The last ten years have taken their toll. I will give your piece a “heart” and move on and hope that my optimism and fire for change is stoked again.

Some days it is very very hard not to feel despair. I do feel it, but I voted even in this ruby red Upstate corner of SC. There's no way a Democrat can win here, for people have no idea who's running...they just vote R. Talk about discouraging! But I do have hope that the more urban part of the state, along the coast, will balance it all out this year. The R candidate is really a poor choice.

I will be voting tomorrow—what makes me sad is our Senate candidate is so strong (Abdul) and would do a world of good—but the racists of our state are too hung up by his name—and the republican super-pacs are making sure that point is loud and proud. The Republican candidate is a trump lackey and I will be so sickened if he wins—that along with the Republican idiot who is running for governor who has so much money behind him. We MUST get this dark money— and all the staggering amount of PAC money out of our political races and let the best humans win.

I'm incredibly impressed by Abdul El-Sayed who's decidedly among the best humans, though I share your trepidation.

I am a Michigander that feels the same as you, deeply. My hope is a blue tsunami, not just a wave! Let's get it done! ❤️🇺🇲💙

We can thank the GOP-dominated SCOTUS, who ruled during Obama's term that there's no limits on the amount the wealthy and corporations can contribute to SuperPACs, which are typically behind most of the Ads and other measures to support candidates, many of it GOP Propaganda. Of course the ruling favors the wealthy to influence political outcomes. Worse now because Trump has implemented "Pay to Play" to the wealthy and corporations, essentially "Back me and my GOP Candidates for political favors that affect you and/or your company."

Abdul will win.

A glaring problem with Rs is that they have no sense or irony or hypocrisy. I can't count the number of times I've seen DJT and his minions gravel in front of someone named Mohammed!

Never say never. Change can take time, but it can happen.

ClaireG's avatar

There is absolute truth in your words—but I think somewhere in the back of my brain is the worry that we will never be able to correct the staggering amount of damage the regime has caused—and the feckless Congress has allowed.

Oh, you mean Lindsay's sister with no freaking clue as what is going on! We are in the midst of moving to SC to be near family, PLEASE vote for anyone but Graham! Her next independent thought will be her first!

I hear you Claire’s. The stakes are so high this time because we have people in power who are spinning out of control with their blatant corruption.

The continued disappointments are hard to bear but remember they’re counting on our collapsing in despair. Take care of your heart in whatever ways you can; stay true to your values and hold on to your personal agency. You’re not alone.

What an encouraging and hopeful response. Thanks, Robert.

I feel the same way you do, Claire. It's disheartening to see what's become of a major political party and the adverse effect it's had on our country. It's also hard to understand why Republicans let that happen. Americans used to choose candidates with principles and integrity, not criminals. That's why we're all worried: We've lost faith in American voters. Maybe, though, decency will eventually return to our society.🤞

As a 50+ year veteran to voting, never having to EVER worry about my polling places being intentionally moved to discourage me from voting, I am SO PROUD of these young people!! They are our future, folks! They refuse to be suppressed and silenced by a wannabe dictator who thinks he can control and wait out people 50-60 years younger than he is. THEY will long outlast him. BRAVO TO OUR AMERICAN YOUTH!!!!

Well said. Adam’s piece and the power of what these students did brought tears to my eyes. 🙏👏🙏

I saw this story. I’m proud of these young people and hope everyone will follow their lead! It gives me hope to see the younger generation take the lead and show by example how to be an American…….

What those students did makes me happy and excited for the future. They're taking the reins, and I see good things happening!! Great news, Mr. Kinzinger! Thank you!

I'm in Tarrant County, Texas. I showed up on day one. Had a bit of a wait for the doors to open, and there was already a long line when I got there, but I voted early! My husband also voted early 2 days later. We will not be stopped!

Thanks, Mario!

Yay!!! What a good start to our Sunday!

NPGardener's avatar

It's unconscionable that they have removed so many polling places. But the youth will show us the way! Very good news indeed.

Debbie E's avatar

It's their country and they are fighting to keep it a democratic republic! It warms my heart to see our young people rising up and speaking out.

Linnea Levine's avatar

So proud of these young voters who understand that voting is their right which should not be ignored.

Kbmc's avatar

Their right, responsibility and future. So hopeful to see them rising up!

Denise Buckman's avatar

Thank you to ALL the students who peacefully protested and walked to make their voices heard in We the People’s Republic voting! Thank you Adam for continuing to keep us updated! Thank you!🇺🇸

And a little child shall lead them, says Scripture. Amen.

Good for those students! Thanks for this good news on this Sunday morning!

This is wonderful, so crazy that we have gone backwards and yet again, the young people are showing up. I hope this gerrymandering and closing of polls backfires on them. 💪🏻🙌🏻

I hope you're right that this a movement and not a one off moment. As a participant in all the NoKings protests, I have been disappointed that the demographics of those were overwhelmingly (in my experience) white, senior citizens. It would be great to have a student movement akin to the 60's and the Vietnam War, where they were the leaders of change.

Linda Lee Williams's avatar

Exactly. It's time that we Boomers should not have to keep marching with our old, arthritic bodies! But we are out there, nonetheless, because this is who we've always been.

Michael Otter's avatar

And good news it is. People all too often say young people don't know anything or have no interest in what goes on around them. This video and these protests prove to the folks who say things like this that they are wrong. As a commentary, the moves by politicians, particularly Republicans are making it harder to vote and to speak your mind. The students at UNCG and A&T are to be applauded for their common sense and wanting their voices to be heard. I hope there are more of these protests and that just maybe, things will change. If they don't then the Republican party is in for some big problems. I have already voted and encourage everyone who has not yet voted to make your voice heard - it is your right to do so.
