Thanks for highlighting these beautiful moments. Unfortunately, you are right about the podcasters who are poisoning some young men with misogyny and contempt for women, I’m seeing the effects in someone I love and am fighting hard to combat it. I wish people could just look at each other as fellow human beings- that would solve a lot of problems.

Yes, it would solve a lot of problems--and even help us believe it when people profess to be Christians!

JUST OUT: “President Donald Trump said he plans to send $90 checks to more than 20 million seniors this month ‒ his latest giveaway of government funds before the November midterm election.”

This is Trump’s most recent display of his belief that the American people can be bought.

Trump is in a frenzy to empty the U.S. treasury to pay as much bribe money to as many voters as he possibly can before the November 3rd elections.

With the polls showing that the American people increasingly see Trump for the demented, unpredictable psychopath that he is, this last-ditch desperate effort to buy our votes is so repulsive that he’ll soon discover how it will backfire on him.

And did he ever show love to his kids? I don’t remember seeing any tender moments with Barron.

oh well do we count the time when Ivanka was a young teen and he fondled her?

L.D.Michaels's avatar

And it seems that Melania feels the same way.

Kim's avatar

You don’t think Melania loves Barron? Or do you mean she doesn’t love Barron’s father.

L.D.Michaels's avatar

The latter. My guess is that they're waiting until Trump's term is up to split - with a big package to her, and Barron goes with her.

If I get a check ( I doubt that I will) I will not cash it no matter how much I might need it. I will work hard at my part time cashiers job and collect my ss check being a satisfied 75 year old!

We all know tRump projects. Well, he is doing that here. He is and always has been for sale and he projects that on everyone else.

I believe it’s a way to gain access to our bank accounts. Will be ‘return to sender’ with mine (if I get one🙄) with a Big ‘F*** tRump’ on the back.

Doubt I’ll get it but I’d rip it up if I did.

Beautiful column, Adam. Thank you. I just shared it with my son and husband -- two great fathers. I'm going to restack this column.

Oh, Adam, the first story brought buckets of tears to my eyes -- such a touching, powerful story! Thank you. I also much enjoyed the story about the patient, determined-to-keep trying quarterback -- amazing story.

That story also reminded me of Collin Kaepernick, all that he knowingly risked for his principles (I imagine you can relate), and yet he keeps training every day, continues to practice and to hope for a chance to play in the NFL again, making clear when he does get interest from teams that he will not promise to stand during the national anthem. So far, he's still shut out.

Thank you for the two stories you shared and for your insights into what it means to be a good man. You reminded me that we have indeed made progress in the way fathers relate to their kids now.

Then there are all those dads who carried their children across the desert and mountains of Mexico then the Rio Grande risking their lives to give their kids opportunities for a better life.

Oh, Mr. Kinzinger, the tears fell freely with this post! What beautiful moments shared between a dad and daughter! I'm pretty old now, but I can remember when I gave birth to my son. There hadn't been a boy in my family for quite a while! My mom had six girls! I was terrified! I didn't know how to raise a boy. Thank God I had a great mother and mother-in-law that truly helped me raise my two children. My son has grown into a fine young man (not so young, he's in his 50s!). He is kind, caring and compassionate. He is so very good to his wife and children, and I find myself bursting with pride at his accomplishments. He raised his children by example and taught them how to be strong, independent adults. My husband and I did not do that alone. We had mothers and fathers who loved us and helped us. Young men today are seeing an extremely toxic example of being a man by watching and listening to this regime. I truly hope moms and dads will step up and do their part in teaching these young men what it is that makes a truly good man. Your mom and dad raised you right, Mr. Kinzinger, and I am so appreciative of that! Thank you for a very heart-warming post today!

I had a plumber do some work for me. He showed up with his little boy, which I thought was awesome. But then he proceeded to tell me about his daughter. I don’t remember the exact words but he really thought of his daughter as less than his son. I was speechless. If I could remember his name and had his cell phone number, I’d send this to him. I feel so sorry for his daughter.

And I just had another thought. I know you have talked about how these men are teaching the next generation of men how to behave. I think what’s missed is that they are teaching the next generation of women that they deserve it.

Thank you for this post , heartwarming and inspiring to all , My late father would tell us “ you can tell the true character of a man on how he treats children , the elderly, and animals and to be a voice for anyone who is voiceless. “. With the current situation surrounding the treatment of women , post like this one sheds light on raising sons to be a man of character. These two examples of men who are strong , and their strength comes from the tears and emotions they don’t hide. Thank you , Adam.

I am still taken back at all the dads at the playground and school dropoffs and pickups in my grand children's Brooklyn neighborhood. When my kids were young a dad out there was a novelty. It is wonderful seeing this as an of course matter of fact way of being. Also talking to the dads about the difficulties of balancing life and family during child raising years. I don't know why anyone would want to go back to absent fathers and moms as a punchline with flowers on mother's day.
