Trump has prevailed so many times, with odds clearly against him each time. I’m beginning to think he’s right when he said he could murder someone on 5th Avenue and still win.

I hope Adam is right too. But if past behavior (of the electorate) is the best predictor of future behavior….

I understand. He was called Teflon Don long before entering politics. Ironic that the word Don is used as a title for a mob boss.

All the Constitution and rule of law breaches are obvious to anyone who reads, but I’m wondering how many people still do.There is always a lag between the time economic decisions are made and the effects begin. I believe that time lag is close to ending and I expect to see more weakness in the economy going forward. Inflation numbers come out tomorrow and it’s expected to rise based on Trump’s chaotic tariffs. We’ll see. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all of the time.

I Resist's avatar

Hopefully my new post will be out tomorrow, “Trump doesn’t even understand the trade deficit or doesn’t care; tariffs are a tool for power and leverage.”

Gunnar Jensen's avatar

With fascist Republicans power drunk and careening at the wheel in congress, and a Supine Court (6/3) enabling his unconstitutional and unlawful actions, Trump wields power over the world by unleashing KAOS at the behest of his mentor, patron and puppet master, Putin. Trump's feckless, illegal and unconstitutional, on again, off again impositions of tariffs are nothing more than a child's mindless tantrum to seize control of any situation. The tariffs do nothing but feed the illusion that Trumpuppet can be king of the world's attention. He uses tariffs to distract and deflect from his many failures, foibles, general foolishness, and cruelty. He also uses them to corruptly enrich his market manipulating, fascist oligarch pals. Dictators always do these many horrid things, or similar, and eventually, they always bring themselves crashing down. Sadly, they also, always take many more, mostly innocent souls with them.

After just a quick read, Epstein is one of many cracks in fdt’s facade… totally hoping it contributes bigly to his political evaporation 👍🏼

'Political evaporation' – a great phrase!

I just added a post on how to proceed when we encounter someone who has experienced the crack. I hope you read it and we can accelerate the "evaporation"

In the meantime, our “leaders” need to go on the offense aggressively to ensure that the 2026 elections are safeguarded from the corruption this “administration” will attempt to implement.

Thank you, Susie, for nailing it. All those thefts of information by Doge Dogs must have the "2025" crowd slobbering.

ELECTIONS: There is but one hope left! More important then anything "Free and Fair Elections". If you can afford it, DONATE to the organizations that are doing the legal fights for free and fair elections. www.democracydocket.com/ https://protectdemocracy.org/our-work/protecting-elections/ https://www.aclu.org/ - https://democracyforward.org/ - https://votingrightslab.org/ These groups are suing the Trump administration virtually every day. Pass it on!

Subscribed to Democracy Docket. Thank you, John!

Gunnar Jensen's avatar

Yes! The P2025 crowd have their sights on either delegitimizing local elections offices, officials and volunteers, and/or installing Heritage ("Republican") hacks, and lackeys. Their intent is to sow doubt, and confusion on the midterms, which could pave the way for Trump (or Vance) to refuse 2026 midterm election results. This is getting scant attention, but would likely be the best focus for our collective, pro-democracy vigilance, and actions. (We can no longer count on complicit corporate media to shine the lights on this kind of GOP corruption.) For credible analysis of this concern, please check out Harry Litman's Substack post "Talking Feds" for 11jul2025 (I think...) entitled, "It's the Election, Stupid".

Great recommendation, Gunnar. Thank you for sharing that with me!

TACO might croak between now and the primaries. No biggie, of course. But the one we have to keep in mind is STEPHEN MILLER. That guy is in TACO's ear, whispering his evil intent. I don't know what kind of power he will wield without his sidekick, but he's not above using threats - if he isn't already - to keep people in lockstep. This guy is DANGEROUS. He's the 21st century version of WW2's Heinrich Himmler, who was put in charge of overseeing the construction of concentration camps, under Hitler's orders. This guy is a psychopath. There are two heads on this snake. One is TACO, the other is Miller. BOTH heads need cutting off. Influencers in this FAKE administration must not be allowed to remain in power of any kind.

Susie H's avatar

Agree! But there are so many more who are complicit in the current “administration’s” corruption of our governmental systems and institutions. If you can get to a local protest on July 17th, do. If you can’t, join a virtual protest. Both can be found here: https://goodtroubleliveson.org/?SQF_SOURCE=50501

Susie H's avatar

Yes. Yes. YES! We must bombard our members of congress with calls and emails demanding to not just catch up (MAGA’s plans for delegitimizing our elections have been going on for years) but to get ahead of this issue to ensure the integrity of our elections. Without that integrity, we lose everything we hold dear. Everything.

Ellen Brown's avatar

Why is the MAGA(T)sphere not screaming about tariffs, the fact their president is ignorant of all things, has emboldened Kristi Noem to enfeeble FEMA, and is in general the worst president this country has ever seen? Because it is the mirror image of him. Democrats are fighting amongst themselves when they should find common ground. It’s imperative we make sure the midterms don’t solidify the worst policy decisions ever.

I Resist's avatar

Ellen, with regard to your question, they are syncophants through and through to,the very last drop. It is so pathetic what folks will do for fleeting power, some of the pics, eg Hegseth and Rubio flanking him after the Iran bombing announcement, make me want to puke😱

My guess: the real resentment against experts is based on the fact that the GOP (the Reagan GOP, then the neocon GOP, now the neofascist GOP) is making real education totally unaccessible to most Americans.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

True, but has always been true and just getting worse and worse... They've been creating a nation of ignorant and gullible voters vulnerable to being conned, scammed, bamboozled, hoodwinked, schnookered, duped, deceived and defrauded because they don't know any better. Worse yet, they don't want to know better. They've gotten comfy being told what to do and how to think without questioning any of it nor taking any personal responsibility to investigate and inform themselves. They actually like led around by the nose like good little sheep. Very BA-A-A-AD.

EUWDTB's avatar

Exactly. Back in 1976 already, Irving Kristol (Bill's father), one of the founders of neoconservatism, wrote an op-ed in the WSJ entitled "The Stupid Party". That's how John Stuart Mill had called the conservative parties, but Kristol decided to wear it as a badge. The op-ed basically sums up the entire conservative movement since then. It explicitly states that conservatives can only win elections IF people vote with their "gut feeling", based on "sentiment", rather than using rational thinking. This is also why, Kristol argues, a "healthy society" vitally needs intellectuals to stay "at the margin of society". As soon as they begin to participate in public debates, conservatives cannot but lose elections.

It's this irrational version of conservatism that has held both the US and (to a lesser extent) UK back for centuries and centuries now.

I get that Adam and also for instance Never Trump Republicans at The Bulwark need to argue, for now, that restoring democracy is much more important than debating right versus left wing political philosophies, and I fully agree with him on that.

But sooner or later, we DO need to have the debate, finally, so that we can see whether a rational version of conservatism is actually possible or... we should bury conservatism once and for all as a bad idea that led to disastrous outcomes everywhere where conservatives managed to win elections...

Sheila's avatar

I must be missing something. I keep hearing how Trump is losing MAGA support because of the Epstein issue. I would think they would be glad to bury it. After all, Trump is their hero. They don’t want anything tarnishing his image. Of course, to me, this is insane!! His image is, and has always been for me, in the toilet!!!

and we all need to hit the "flush" on that toilet and elect democrats in 2026.

I have never known what a huge deal the Epstein story was/is to MAGA. I mean, it's been obvious for years that trump and Bill Clinton (among others) were with Epstein's sex abuse/minors ring. I didn't know how much the whole conspiracy theories mattered to MAGA. Those of us from the Northeast knew since the 1980s what scum trump was. I guess I never saw that TV show, either. When he started mouthing off about Obama and "birtherism," I thought, who gives an eff what trump thinks? Whatever brings him/them down is fine with me.

Sheila's avatar

I’m from NY. I never really knew about Trump. From everything I know about him now, from listening to people like David Cay Johnston, watching the documentary, “Where’s My Roy Cohn” and just listening to him speak. He’s always patting himself on the back with his lies, I just can’t stand the man!! I cannot understand what people see in him. People must have seen the show he was on, “ The Apprentice”. I’ve never watched it. I just don’t get it. To me, he is despicable. I guess they look at him like he’s a TV star. He needs to be convicted and put into jail!!!!

Ilene Bilenky's avatar

I lived in Cambridge,MA, in the 1980s. Seems I read about trump everywhere, as he bankrupted Atlantic City, etc. I read an article about him- it might have been in Playboy! that said, "Donald trump has a 40-foot living room and lives in. fear that, somewhere, someone has a 60-foot living room." He was all over tabloids (which I read for entertainment until I never heard of the people in them).

Diane Battista's avatar

Never watched or had it on in my house I hated it

To me, it just was promoting a dog eat dog rude crude backstabbing manipulative business environment .

Not promoting an ethical business environment where people respected each other and work together .

I remember thinking about young people coming out of college watching it thinking that’s what the workplace is supposed to be about.

All the flashing around of material things with the money, money money song playing.

Not my value system did not want it on in my house .

Theresa McGinness's avatar

I think MAGA were fed ideas like the dems, leftist, Hollywood blah blah blah were all going to be implicated in the Epstein files. I think investigations have led the regime to discover nothing with the exception of implicating you know who. Maga are like rabid dogs and now they are fighting over the scraps

Sheila's avatar

By the way Adam. You are right. It’s in no way going to be because of the Epstein Files. He’s going down because he’s a terrible person. People are realizing that our corrupt Supreme Court made a terrible mistake giving him the green light to run for office. Trump and his administration are always saying to let the states govern. Well, Colorado had it right when they wanted him off their ballot!!!!! What a shame it was denied.

Ilene Bilenky's avatar

Whatever brings them down, good! I went to meet the Democratic candidate in CD3 Colorado, which got rid of Boebert, who was replaced by Jeff Hurd. Alex Kelloff, the candidate, has been also over our huge district, and says people are very concerned about Medicaid and the overreach (!) in immigration actions. I call Hurd's office every day as a Reg. Independent, Ret. RN, MPH, US Army Reserves medical officer. Hurd is supposedly going to be primaries by a woman who says he's not speaking enough for MAGA and is "a RINO." I hope the national D Party is taking note. Hurd is considered a weak R seat. Thirty percent of CD3 is on Medicaid, and five rural hospitals are I danger of closing. Alex Kelloff is close to Adam Frisch, who almost won and was able to run off Boebert to CD4. I hope the national party has a clue here.

Cats 🐈🐈‍⬛'s avatar

Thank you, Adam. I also hope you are right about all of this. Democrats still have work to do. We need to get out in our communities and talk to voters as much as we can and let them know we hear their concerns and let them know what the Democratic Party plans to do. We need to also find a way to show them (not tell them) our plans and how we will be successful. This is where local and state parties can have a huge impact.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

Exactly what Zohran Mamdani did and look what an impact it had. Take the hint, dammit!

Cyndie's avatar

I hope this is true. We need to vote out every single republican and start the task of repairing all the damage these morons have and will do.

Debbie E's avatar

Logically one would agree. But we are dealing with an immoral society with very short memories.

Jim Carmichael's avatar

The Epstein files give Dems an edge to widen the gap between Trump and his supporters. If Trump’s name emerges in a scandal, that gap will widen further. You are right, though, Adam: it is the cruelty of the policies that are the real issue, but it takes a sexual exposé to bring those policies to the attention of some people.
