History will remember your courage! You were abandoned by GOP, but they’re getting the wake up call now. Kinzinger 2028 has a nice ring to it! Stay safe!

Start working on the sequel: “Kinzinger, 2028!”

I pray you can release from letting it haunt you. It’s a trajectory and no one could have stopped it

fsinsd's avatar

I disagree. There was an opportunity to stop Trump in his tracks then But McCarthy ruined it for his own selfish reasons.

I absolutely agree. We have to remember that many were manipulated by Fox and FB misinformation. Until we grapple with what gets to be classified as news vs propaganda which prays on manipulating people’s fears, we are going to have more people that need to learn the hard way as they lack the critical thinking skills to consider the source of their info.

Amen, Jacquelyn! 🙏🏻

This group has worked since the 60s to get where they are and it will take a huge effort to get rid of them. There is little as strong as religious fervor and that with white supremeness will be hard to

dislodge.

HUGE missed opportunity, Kevin McCarthy is responsible for that. What a weak pathetic jackass he is and was.

I'll never ever forget his trip to Mara Lago with his jar of Starburst. Unbelievable.

McCarthy was a bottom feeder with no bottom. He was a “pick me” simp so much so that as the House repeatedly handed his a** to him when he wanted to be Speaker, he literally demeaned and humiliated himself to the point of letting MAGA pedophiles vote him out whenever they wanted AND THEY DID. So I hope those hours on his knees at Mar-a-Lago are all the warm, fuzzy memories he has left because he was the TRAITOR who betrayed the American people and the still few decent men like Adam in his party. And his MAGA minders had him on a choke chain and in one afternoon it was all over for that POS.

TLO's avatar

Trump does tend to attract the bottom feeders, doesn't he? I don't know what that says about the rest of those hangers-on in both the GOP and the administration.

McCarthy was a cheap buy, for sure. I do hope he finds his "sacrifice" was worth it. I don't notice it helping with his influence in California.

You did what you could. I will always respect you and Liz Cheney for standing up for our country (even as a voter from the Bernie-AOC camp). The lack of follow up after January 6th - when Big Cheese should have been prosecuted but Garland dragged his feet for whatever reason - continues to blow my mind.

I watched The Last Republican last night. It was AMAZING! I know you don't want the hero tag, but Adam, you sacrificed so much to stand up for what's right. Your son will be so proud of his father, as history will remember you well! 2028, you have my vote!

Dear Former Rep Kinzinger,

It likely always will, and telling you otherwise isn't helpful.

What might be helpful is to encourage you to transform it into one of your most powerful tools in that tool kit called Wisdom.

People who temporarily lapse into statements like those of McCarthy's -- in the immediate aftermath of an event like Jan6 -- made because they were scared shitless -- are always best kept in the category of "I'll watch what you do before I consider your words of value."

The threats all 10 of you were receiving would cause most people to find a fox hole and stay silent.

You just happen not to be one of those people.

You are motivated by a willingness to give - including your life - for others.

The price for that should not be 'being haunted,' but it often is.

What has not 'haunted' me about all that I saw that day, but has been and remains a source of front-of-mind enormous anger every time I read or see the name Trump, is his intentionality of waiting for more than 2 hours before doing what only he could do, instantly - tell HIS INSURRECTIONISTS to STOP.

He was waiting for one and only one outcome -- a captured or dead VP or even just one dead or captured Member of Congress -- in order to launch martial law and refuse to leave office until a redo of the 2020 Presidential Election transpired.

It is a colossal failure that unrelenting focus on that fact was not 'on loop' on every major commercial media broadcast until he withdrew from public life after exiting DC on 20 Jan 2021.

The dude watched and waited for DEATH (preferred option), captured and beaten (would have sufficed).

That colossal media failure -- entirely intentional, for certain -- is because America currently has nothing more than propaganda-for-hire corporate media empires.

That colossal failure IS why your collaboration with Ben, Brett & Jordan is essential to the resuscitation and reformation of American Democracy.

Beginning today -- Every Republican Member of the House & Senate should not be able to escape being reminded, 24/7, every day, every where they go that they are SUBSERVIENT to a dude who waited impatiently for more than 2 hours for a MEMBER OF CONGRESS OR/AND A VP to be CAPTURED AND HARMED BY HIS GOONS.

Let them be the 'haunted ones.' They've earned it.

Thank you, Sir.

Wow. Well said thank you

You earned every word of it, Sir.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I bought “The Last Republican“ on Amazon Prime and my husband (FORMER Republican, currently Independent) and I (a Democrat) watched it together. You did the RIGHT thing, Adam. You and Liz did the right thing. You acted morally on truth, oath of office, and integrity.

Anyway, at the end of the documentary, I felt like the Committee did all that they could and it was up to the people to vote. My husband is very frustrated and discouraged that your committee found the facts, witnesses, and presented them for all to see. And STILL Republican Representatives are either in denial or cowards for not standing up to the Trump Lie Machine and his liars. Kudos to you. Thank you!

Do not go down that path, Adam. You made your choice, as did everyone else. You made the right choice, which is all that you could have done in the end. No matter what you say or what you do, in the end we all must make our own choices. And then live with the consequences.

We are all learning a harsh lesson, but that does not negate the reality that we must all work together to fix the disaster that other's choices created.

Move forward and do not get stuck in the past.

TLM's avatar

No. No regrets. it's on them not you.

Thank you Adam for standing up and speaking out for democracy and our country. Thank you for your sacrifice. I truly admire and appreciate your courage and integrity. Yes, oath does matter, truth does matter. Your documentry was so well done. Thank you to Steve Pink and everyone involved in the production. Thank you Meidas and others in sharing this history which must not be forgotten. Once again, Adam thank you for doing what was right!

I had forgotten the story about how Adam had saved the women from being stabbed, and it reminded me of something Joseph Campbell said in the old "The Power of Myth" series with Bill Moyers. Campbell used the example of how someone may grab a stranger from stepping off a cliff even though it may put them in danger because, in that instant, they instinctively knew that the stranger is not really a stranger at all; that that person is "me", and we are all one and connected to one another. That person didn't seek to be hero, but became one because of a selfless act. Sometimes that instantaneous instinct is just fleeting state, but when sticks, it turns into lasting courage that is used to protect and defend all of us…maybe someone who has the courage to stand up and remind us all that oaths matter, character matters, and truth matters even when it puts them in danger. Loved the film, and thank you for reminding us all what courage and leadership is really about.

Linda Roulier-Rogers's avatar

Wow...I hope Adam, we can survive what is happening now. 😢

Linda Warner's avatar

This was so heartwarming…showing you cared so much about democracy, you put it all on the table. History will show you the honor and respect you have earned! ❤️

Donald Trump was disgraced then, but I remember his disgrace from the 1980s. I think the TV show fooled a lot of people - they took a fiction and thought it was real - his bossiness was real.

Maggie Kirschner's avatar

I just finished watching the documentary. After learning more about you as both a congressman and a person, I have so much more respect and admiration for you. Thank you for sharing your life story. I believe so much more good is coming your way.

Aukje's avatar

You did everything you could at that moment but I definitely understand this pains you. You all had the momentum to really make a difference and it's a pity the others (expect Liz Cheney) weren't wiling to do more than the impeachment vote. They had the chance to have a huge impact on the future of the country but chose the easy way out or even went back to support Trump again. Something I'll never understand. If only they had a bit more of your willingness to fight back the country could have looked a lot different right now.
