I have to say Adam, I admire your civility and composure in a time when nerves are on edge. We can tell this has not shattered your calm demeanor especially considering the risks you take and following your oath. Keep fighting the good fight, your courage and optimism are contagious.
Thanks again Adam!! From a piece I'm working on today: ...the administration is trying to create a climate of fear. When JD Vance told Americans to call those out who celebrate Kirk’s murder, adding “hell, call their employer” he didn’t seem too concerned with the possibility that innocent people could unjustly lose their livelihoods due to personal or political vendettas combined with an over-all climate of fear. Again, celebrating a murder is reprehensible. But am I going to call someone’s employer every time I hear something that is offensive to me? In fact, Vance is encouraging a kind of surveillance culture that was all too prevalent in Communist Russia and other totalitarian societies, where, as the popular Russian saying had it, “the walls have ears.”
The Jimmy Kimmel thing is just weird to me, Adam. If some idiot kid would not have shot Charlie Kirk and made him an idiot martyr in Idiotville, he would be no one to anyone anywhere as he lived on. And he had funny-looking teeth. So now if people speak against him it becomes an employment issue? I am ready to start issuing blumke vouchers again. I'm not on the left or the right on the sudden problem with free speech. Somebody somewhere seems to want to enforce a lack of common sense. What a tremendous photo opportunity. And don't say "gay." The shooter said "gay." An idiot Christian is dead because an idiot shooter thought he was gay. They have their whole lives behind them now.
A local television news reporter actually TOLD viewers to turn in people who commented on Charlie Kirk's death--this was an ad lib after the story about Texas teachers losing their jobs after certain comments they made on their personal social media. So, not everyone can give personal opinions.
I have a question so when JD Vance went on the podcast and basically gave the greenlight to docs people to their employers, if they say bad things about Charlie Kirk, would that be considered retribution from the government?
The person whose mouth spews hate the most is - you know who. Him telling Jonathan Karl that Karl has "a lot of hate in your heart" is hilarious. Also terrifying, because of what it bodes. If there's room in the DODO's heart for anything beyond greed and wanting to be bowed to, hate's got to be in there. (DODO: acronym for Dictator on Day One, a title he embraces; dictators as a class are known to be full of hate.)
I'm an old fart and have been thinking about this literally for decades. In my humble opinion, what we are witnessing is the ability of capitalism to destroy democracy. Capitalism works well up to a certain point and, in theory, could work forever. The problem is, as Mary Trump made famous in her book title, it becomes too much and never enough. The greed involved in pure capitalism trumps everything else. In other words, unfettered capitalism evolves over time into pure unadulterated GREED that literally has no bounds. I believe that, given enough time, capitalism tends to evolve, or devolve, back into tribalism with its inherent dictatorial or autocratic associated governmental types. This is just a simple man's own opinion formed over a very long time and a couple of long careers.
Definitely! Robert Reich writes on this extensively. It’s really about the money in politics that pushed the politicians, on behalf of the greed class, to advocate for deregulation, etc. So, does that mean that a democratic capitalist society must, at all costs, keep money out of politics? Maybe after this an overhaul is needed. Guess we start with overturning the Citizens United case.
Theodore Roosevelt wrote the book on regulating big business and preventing monopolies. Eisenhower wrote the book on taxing the morbidly wealthy and reducing tariffs instead of increasing them. The conservative soldiers returning from WWII were anxious to go to college. What happened to the Republican party?
The Republican Party got greedy beginning with Ronald Reagan. They also unfortunately, got linked up with some unscrupulous evangelicals like Jerry Falwell, who enjoyed fame and money more than actual compassion for people in service to Jesus Christ.
Once the wealth driven Evangelicals teamed up with equally wealth seeking business people, the Republican Party started to change and ignore, (put in policies) that reduced the middle class while transferring wealth to the rich. It’s why we have such a wealth gap.
It’s an incredible shame that they can’t muster any sense of bravery these days. I never would have thought it possible, especially in our military. Thank you for the information.
I guess if they had signed a contact with a company stating that they would not make controversial statements on their personal social media, they had signed away their right to do so. If not, I would contact a lawyer and sue the company.
When did threats of violence become a crime. Admittedly this was a few decades ago, but police would not act on threats (much to abused women’s regret)?
Thanks Adam for continuing to encourage us through these rough times! You give ME courage! I just finished the third day of Country First's week of action and I thank you for that too!! It makes me feel like I can participate in this fight for democracy along with praying daily at 3pmEST!!🙏🏻
Regardless of the freedom the first amendment provides, media and law firms are settling or going silent. People are losing jobs for making comments. Trump is firing at will.
So why do the law firms that are attacked, not choose an alternative approach. Rather then settle with Trump financially, provide the same value of legal services to defend suits against media companies or individuals directly affected?
Hate speech is protected. The hate speech spewed by the likes of Charlie Kirk and by those who feel "empowered" by anonymity to unleash their worst instincts online and make things worse. Thank God for the first amendment, though.
They come at you by trying to get you fired from your job. Not illegal for them to do this. They technically are not taking away free speech, just punishing you in slimy back door ways.
I would get them to provide you a written notice stating reasons you were fired or somehow get documentation. Regardless, I would get a lawyer and go after them. I would let your coworkers know so that they will not be intimidated and if let go, do the same thing.

So true MIke!!

its evil
and at the same time so stupid, since most of these lessons have already been learned, hence our Constitution...sigh...

Maybe we should all call the employer at the WH to complain about their free speech. Ops, forgot the WH is the employer.
Stalinism.
I guess I’m getting used to it. I live in Texas.
A local television news reporter actually TOLD viewers to turn in people who commented on Charlie Kirk's death--this was an ad lib after the story about Texas teachers losing their jobs after certain comments they made on their personal social media. So, not everyone can give personal opinions.
P.S. In Texas by Texas Education Agency.
I have a question so when JD Vance went on the podcast and basically gave the greenlight to docs people to their employers, if they say bad things about Charlie Kirk, would that be considered retribution from the government?
I would think so
Sounds like it
Yes. If it happens frequently enough, perhaps a class-action lawsuit is an option?
I love this!
Yes
Adam, I'm so glad to have you around in this country. I feel VERY depressed about the state of our country and the liars/idiots in charge. Ugh.
ya. Im not gonna pretend Im super happy either...but Im determined to keep battling!
Your determination to battle is contagious! Keep fighting and so will we.
Thank you, Adam.
No one can terrorize a whole nation, unless we are all his accomplices. -Edward R. Murrow
Who holds the intimidators who threaten getting us arrested ? SCOTUS won’t protect that right even if the Constitution “guarantees” it.
Good question, Janet. I was wondering the same thing.
My concern as well.

DODO is a great name for him. It’s so much shorter than typing orange man-baby, which is what I call him. Can I steal that name and use it too? 😝
Of course. It should be more popular!
Thank you!

People have had jobs suspended or lost
I guess if they had signed a contact with a company stating that they would not make controversial statements on their personal social media, they had signed away their right to do so. If not, I would contact a lawyer and sue the company.
the average person doesn't have the money to do that and many cant risk losing a job.
Which is awful. But do we know exactly what they said?
No, Delta has done that over statements on social media per article in AJC
I love how Pam Bondi had to "clarify" exactly what she meant... after criticism from some Republicans and MAGAs. Too late.
When did threats of violence become a crime. Admittedly this was a few decades ago, but police would not act on threats (much to abused women’s regret)?
Yeah, when TED CRUZ pushes back against a MAGAt you know you done screwed up.
Did he push back??? When? How?
Yesterday--read on news feed, he said First Amendment protects ALL speech etc.
I'm so happy to learn this.
My head was spinning because most of the time Cruz is a waste of space.
I was astounded. Might there be a glimmer of sanity there?

You are a hero and God bless you and yours!!
I hope you’re running for office in Texas
Texas really needs more good people in government!
He is from Illinois
He now lives in The Woodlands, Texas, which is near Houston.
He moved to Texas.
Did he, well too bad!
He's from Illinois
He lives in Texas now.
Adam, thank you.

Ahh, a sane voice. I hear so much but nothing calms me like you do, Adam.
