I believe America’s promise still holds true today. I think currently it’s misdirected by a sick administration that wants to tear it down but the heart of this country is too strong to let that happen. Yes it’ll take work. Yes, it will take patience and fortitude, but we can succeed again. If our founding fathers could succeed when they faced more than we’re facing right now, then we can also. we just can’t lose hope. The basis of everything is hope. The bones of this country are good. We have the constitution which has survived 250 years so far and will continue to survive. And as we evolve as citizens, we will see it start to really blossom into the truth that it really is. This is a time to look back and to face forward so we can pave the next 250 years.

Trump believes if he keeps saying this loud enough and time after time when he gets the microphone, like he did in his 250th speech, all the vunerable, Right Extremists, will believe him. Are we going back to the Hitler tactics wherein we fearmonger the vunerable (Trump's cult members) into believe Trump's LIES? If Trump can get the "Christian" vote going, Trump believes the MAGA's will win! Otherwise Trump will "rig" the vote!

I’m going to spend the fourth out in the country where there are no fireworks with my dog, a 12 year old lab who is terrified of fireworks. Doesn’t mean I don’t like the 4th, but I love my dog and it’s worth a little peace for her. Years ago my husband and I found a hill in the state forest where you could see the fireworks without the noise and a river which that water dog loves. My husband is gone now, but we are still going to celebrate by letting her get wet and protecting her from the noise. And making some potato salad and grilling some sausage. And thinking about the real meaning of “All men are created equal” . Happy 4th!

I believe that together, that you and Liz Cheney would make a great President and Vice President, and I would work my tail off to support you! I am 71, still working full time, love my job, my country, and the American values that I was raised on. 50 years ago tomorrow, I was working at Pump Station #4 on the Alaska Pipeline, north of the Arctic Circle and north of the Brooks Range as a union pipefitter. Thinking back on it, I realize now that I was so fortunate to be in that place and time, getting to experience all of it, celebrating our bicentennial so far away from home. Fast forward 50 years, towards the inevitable end of my life, I never thought that I would ever see the day when our nation would be in such a divided and negative state of mind. But I am not ready to give up on our wonderful democracy, in spite of the naysayers that would have us just throw in the towel! Sorry, Adam, I will not talk to a neighbor who wants me dead because I am an immigrant or because my grandmother was Jewish. I will not be friends with a neighbor who voted for a court-adjudicated r*pist. I won't say "we can agree to disagree" to a neighbor who had thrown out their kid for being gay or trans. They love their kids? They want to leave them something better? Sorry, I need to see some evidence of that, because I don't see how someone who loves their kids and wants to leave them something better would support destruction of science, medicine, and education.
I won't be grilling anything outdoors - because it's going to be over 100 deg F out there, and we still have people who don't believe in climate change. My plan is the same as it's always been (for decades) - voting, continuing to contact my representatives (even though some of them are worthless shitheads), continuing to promote independent journalism, and sharing useful information. That counts enough for you? I don't just sit there and bitch, in case you are wondering. I do what I can. But I am allowed to be frustrated when seeing all that corruption, all that crime going unpunished. It's normal - and I am not interested in the platitudes about "letting their hate win".
I am frustrated and angry about the war in Ukraine too because I am a first-generation Ukrainian American and my parents get bombed every day - and I can't them out. Would you like to know my plan to make sure the war ends too? Or is it ok for me to just be terrified and frustrated for five minutes? After spending the last fourteen years (since the annexation of Crimea) covering the events in Ukraine every single day to keep people informed? That ok?
