I disagree. The environment, neighbors, peers are affecting our kids. I'm in red area, neighbors, friends and peers talking are affecting my twelve and thirteen year old big time. My boys even become verbally combative when I express my beliefs, vs neighbors.
No, we all did by giving them too much say, just so people wouldn't hear us yelling at them all the time! You've heard of, "Spare the rod, spoil the child"? This above the law country we now live in has made everyone bitter! Let's fix it immediately! Especially for the next generations!!
Excuse me! I am an OLDER person who would never speak like that or allow my child to do so. I truly resent your remark and think you owe an aplolgy to older people.
I'm an older person too, and I didn't take Jeannie wisto's comment the same way you did. I'm guessing that Jeanie didn't mean it the way you took it.
The people in the chat learned their habits and beliefs from somewhere. I don't think these thoughts and language came out of thin air. So ... the only possibility is people they experienced. That is, people who were older than they were.
Kate, so am I. It’s like saying, “Ok Boomer.” I know a ton of liberal Boomers, they don’t get offended by the term. And also would never allow their kids to talk that way.
I think you misunderstood my comment. I am also an older person, have raised three children and have a considerable ongoing influence on 5 grandchildren. I do not behave the way these young people do, and did not teach or allow my children to behave this way, and they do not teach or allow their children to behave this way. The young people who are so hateful did learn this somewhere, likely from their parents. That kind of hatred is generational; I am not saying ALL older people think that way. Their attitudes and opinions do not come from all older people but I believe it comes from the older people who raised this particular group of miscreants. I don't really see how my comment is offensive to all older people, but I deleted.
I'm 65, my grandmother spoke strongly, two subjects you don't discuss with others politics and religion. These narcissistic people that are talking to my children are in 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's so not just older people. I am a Christian that follows Jesus, not Christian Nationalism. I believe in helping people vs money & greed.
I strongly remember in the 70's, I had black neighbors. My grandmother asked the girl next door, what they preferred to be referred as - black or colored. She got her parents who pulled gun on my grandma. We don't need to go back there.
As a Jewish person, this article is highly disturbing. It made me sick to read. My father fought in WWII. Hundreds of thousands of young men went to war and died to save the world from hitler and his ilk. It is just fucking unforgivable that this is even remotely tolerated by anyone. I am glad it was exposed. Do we need to send them all to reform schools, perhaps provide them a taste of a concentration camp or a shower with Zyklon B?
I’m Jewish as well and and that article makes me want to swat these kids , do you think the parents are to blame or social interaction ? If you read about Steven Miller , he had all the Jewish tradition and teachings but look at him now ! ( I can’t look at him any longer )
My God. I just read it. Wow. It was despicable, disgusting, horrific and frightening. I hate to be one of those people, who, now in her 50’s says “What’s wrong with kids today” so I’ll narrow it down to”What’s wrong with these kids, and so many like them?” What vile thoughts and words. I know these junior Fascists and racists do not reflect everyone who are their ages, but it is a terrifying trend. Would love to find out every place they volunteer, work, etc and let their employers know this is who is working for you. Alas, they do have freedom of speech. Until a private company does not want them representing said company anymore.
Adam, these texts are despicable, however, unsurprising to me. These kids have latched on to what has been put out there by the extremist and have taken it to the next level. Sadly, we have young people believing this stuff, but I also know that there is a whole lot more young people that are/would be appalled by this. Having a gen z son in my sixties has helped me come to understand that this generation for the most part has a good heart and an understanding that much will rest upon their shoulders, we as older people need to truly listen to those who are invested to the betterment of our country and give them our wisdom, knowledge and encouragement to stand and be heard about what is right and fight beside them.
“The young generation”?!🙄 … there are damaged, indulged, ignorant ppl of every generation. Prior gens didn’t have the constant documentation of their every deed, nor did they have leaders who openly flaunt their own hate and emotional/behavioral illness. This is *not* about “the young generation” … don’t insult the majority of them and don’t let the current perpetrators of our behavioral health crisis off the hook. Focus on *all* the bad actors … especially the owners of propaganda & cowardice media and the politicians.
Justa, you’re taking this too personally friend. And being a bit oversensitive here…and you’re not gonna like this…but that’s what a lot of us older folks do notice about the young Millennials and Gen Z. And Gen Alpha ain’t starting out too great either. You make some excellent points. We are lucky we didn’t have those awful experiences. But you imply that the statement is about the majority of young people. As young people often do, you are dismissing the wisdom and experience of previous generations. I did the exact same thing! And far too many of my generation and the Boomers before me appall me with their embrace of such hatred and destruction and dismantling of our Constitution and Democratic Republic.
But Adam’s video was about a horrific article written by young Republicans. That’s just a fact. I didn’t hear him say “Ugh, all of these damn young people, they all suck!” He even said, “I actually think the young generation…is in a good place to save us…”
You are right about the things you said, cowardice media and politicians, but let me ask you…Are you on SM? Are you constantly on your phone? Wearing ear plugs and noise canceling headphones out and about? Even when at work? Talking on the phone in public areas, or even just around a handful of people? I sincerely hope your answer is no, but you would be the exception I hate to say. Idk how old you are exactly, but when I see parents just shoving their phone or iPad in front of a toddler at a restaurant, I want to scream.
Of all the things that need to be legislated for society’s protection?? Social Media. It has only been around for 20 years and it has so effed up society! Which yes, includes adults. These companies need to be held accountable. And the 180 they’ve taken on hate speech and propaganda is awful. They are PRIVATE companies and have every right to restrict what happens on their sites…they know what their algorithms do. Which means they can change them for the greater good.
Anyway, the older generation does care about the younger generation, nobody thinks you’re all bad. You know when older people would say, “Kids nowadays” when I as a young adult, I didn’t take offense to it. I didn’t take it as a personal affront or that the saying is literally about all of us. But societal changes and trends are real as you pointed out yourself.
Sorry, this turned out waaay too long of a comment. I just hope you’ll think about what I said. And guess what? You’ll be saying “kids nowadays”, too at some point. 😜😉 Be well and stay passionate, you ARE the future. It’s also great to see younger folks here. 🙂
Haven’t had time to read your entire response but … fyi … I’m 73 &spent my career in the child/adolescent behavioral health &welfare profession. I caught the end neutralizing remark … wish it would have been a preface. Adolescent &young adult behavioral health issues are complex … I prefer we do less generalizations about large swaths of people w/some things in common … especially ppl who are “influencers”. I enjoy Adam &in this arena I feel free to give instant feedback … I don’t take the time to be perfect in my reactions. I assume he takes it all with a grain of salt.
The Politico story made for appalling reading, but I found the second half of Adam's video far more interesting. I'm thinking he's right, that the Democrats can't become the party of one creed. The official party line might have to embrace the more religious, the more pro-Second Amendment, the more somewhat-to-the-right of wherever one falls. That doesn't require any of us to give up cherished beliefs or causes. It just calls for listening to each other and accepting that we can be different and it's okay. We're all human.
Persuasion has a great piece by Joey McFadden ("What I saw at New York's notorious anti-gay church") that touches on the topic.
Yes we need to stop letting the republicans lie about the democrats. We need a new immigration plan , I am sick and tired of republicans saying democrats want a free border. We do not.
I’ve never been more glad to have escaped the alt-right pipeline some 7+ years ago. They are a sorry cess-pool of basement dwellers that have a twisted sense of “masculinity”.
Adam- your point that we need a democratic party that is both center right and focused on affordability resonates so much we me. I really hope we have room for the Mamdani/AOC/Bernie voice AND Mikie Sherrill, James Talerico, Abigail Spanberger, Wes Moore and YOU! This country is huge- we need a range of democrats.
Sarah Longwell of the Bulwark says in her focus groups people say they are pro life. When she asks them what they mean, they personally would not have an abortion But it should be a persons choice not the government. I think this the majority. As the Pope says Pro life means more than anti abortion. Democrats need to take Pro life back. We are pro life! The republicans stole the word pro life. They are anything but pro life.
I agree with what you are saying. I feel the reason we have an American Pope is because of MAGA. Pope Leo is here to show the MAGA Catholics they have strayed.
Kimberlie, it wasn’t. Adam recently did a quick video about people posing as him or his family and reaching out to us. He said that will not happen. Report it to SUBSTACK. Adam does like and respond to people’s comments here sometimes, but that’s all.
Just read it in Politico. Disgusting. Who raised these kids?
Their MAGA parents raised those kids.
I disagree. The environment, neighbors, peers are affecting our kids. I'm in red area, neighbors, friends and peers talking are affecting my twelve and thirteen year old big time. My boys even become verbally combative when I express my beliefs, vs neighbors.
A few examples would be really helpful.
Agree, 100%. We

We all did. COVID, School Shootings. poor economy. Hopelessness. helplessness.
Excuse me! I am an OLDER person who would never speak like that or allow my child to do so. I truly resent your remark and think you owe an aplolgy to older people.

I apologize if I misunderstood her comment. I realize now that older person does not necessarily mean elderly. Just someone older than they are.
Sorry.

As Adam darkly said: "he's the type of person who probably got beaten up at school " ! Don't worry a change is on the way!!!
Written as a true Antifa. Me too. Good to meet you, brother. (Or sister ....)
Another old Antifa here, like my dad, who fought the fascists (along with about 16 million other Americans) in WWII.
I had 3 relatives die in WWII.
Revolting.

Wow, that’s surprising, but thanks for setting me straight. “Neutralizing remark” eh? Both your psychology and editing skills are showing.
Not being perfect in one’s reactions. A two way street.
And I’ve just been reminded by you, assumptions are often incorrect.
Antisemitism is one of the oldest of "hates." Nothing new here, sadly. It's merely a reflection of the full transition of the GOP to MAGA.
Yes. Hate based on deeply engrained, rarely challenged, and almost never examined lies.

Are they truly sorry or just sorry they got caught?
As always, the latter.
I’ve never been more glad to have escaped the alt-right pipeline some 7+ years ago. They are a sorry cess-pool of basement dwellers that have a twisted sense of “masculinity”.
Yay Frank! I am, too!! Proud of you. ❤️ How did you do it?

I agree with you, Adam. We do need a centrist democratic party. If we don't listen to people and their concerns, we will continue with a Maga America.
The "young republicans" are not saving anyone.
I agree with what you are saying. I feel the reason we have an American Pope is because of MAGA. Pope Leo is here to show the MAGA Catholics they have strayed.
Adam I think someone was impersonating you in a private message. This person was liking my ideas and suggestions and I’m thinking it wasn’t you?!
Kimberlie, it wasn’t. Adam recently did a quick video about people posing as him or his family and reaching out to us. He said that will not happen. Report it to SUBSTACK. Adam does like and respond to people’s comments here sometimes, but that’s all.
