Please don’t try to justify America’s actions with “Maduro is a bad guy.” America has a 34 time felon and adjudicated sex offender as President!! People hate Trump. Should other nations start invading America and kidnapping leaders??

It's Come To This's avatar

This. Don't go down that rabbit hole, Adam. As a former Army attorney put it, "the only difference between war and murder is the law" -- which our cankled, demented, insecure fruitcake of a president just pissed all over last night.

Skepticat's avatar

Perhaps finding another nation to take tRump away would work. After ll, Putin already has him under control.

Brandon's avatar

I don't think he's defending Trump. Maduro IS a bad guy and was not legitimately elected. Removing him from Venezuela is a good thing. It doesn't mean the way it was done was a good thing. If there exists another country that wants to attempt invading the US and take away Trump, you'll have to tell me who that is. Otherwise, it's just a silly thought experiment.

If Trump cured cancer, we would all benefit from that. But Trump doesn't get an excuse for all his evil actions leading up to it.

Charles Long's avatar

There are bad leaders all over the world. Why Venezuela? Especially over false pretenses like fentanyl. Why not Putin? Xi? Orban? Kim Jong Un? And what gives America, with its 34x felon and adjudicated sex offender president, the right to play global policeman? The president who incited an insurrection? The

president who has illegally grifted billions since being elected? I don’t want to hear a goddamn word about “bad guys” in other countries.

Brandon's avatar

Too bad. I don't want to hear bad faith arguments and "what aboutisms" either, but here we are, going against each other's wishes.

You're not actually saying anything new. We all have concerns with how this has played out, and that it was enacted by someone as guilty as Trump. I don't like us playing global policeman either, but Trump doesn't care what you or I think. The fact is he decided to, and at least it was Maduro instead of Canada or Greenland leadership.

You should probably spend more of your energy making these complaints to Venezuelan Americans, who are going to support this in large numbers, rather than me who only thinks your understandable anger/frustration should be pointed to someone other than Adam.

Listen I am just worried about all of us who have known trump wasn’t going to stop with his charades. He is treating the government as though it’s his own private business and he has certainly gone too far using the military as though it’s his own private cabal of well trained goons that he can just send out and order them to do his bidding g. I think his using our well trained military like he has is like laughing in our face. He has literally cut himself off from us ( how country ). He just did whatever he wanted and I am shocked that anyone any politicians would even allow tgis to happen. He has a lot of people upset and stunned in the weirdest of ways because I am sure people still can’t believe he has gotten away with yet another crime.

Brandon's avatar

I agree with all that, except for the last part. I'm not stunned he got away with it at all. It's just like your first sentence, so many knew he wasn't going to stop his charades. I just also knew he would get away with it, for now at least. Personally, I don't see the point in stressing over the realities of our situation, because that doesn't solve them. There will come a time where we can litigate Trump's behaviors, and hopefully face some justice, but that's for later. We need to figure out how to get over the current hurdle, such as politician fecklessness.

DALLAS BAXTER's avatar

Maduro's 'badness' does not give the U. S. president an excuse to bomb and invade his country, killing civilians and causing mayhem! Two wrongs don't make a right, and this invasion is bad for everyone.

Brandon's avatar

Agreed, and wasn't saying that it wasn't. You and I have no power in this situation. We can't influence Trump's actions. Maduro was a bad guy, I can be happy that he is dealing with some consequences (not enough in my opinion), and also recognize that the government is still Maduro's government and that means nothing really changes. Or, more likely, it gets worse for everyone. If we can hold Trump accountable, then great, go for it. But for now, that's not looking likely, and I'm still allowed to be happy that one of the results is that Maduro is out.

Also, I do hope that 'badness' comment isn't because you think Maduro isn't that bad. The guy and his wife ordered the torture and murder of many, on top of subverting an election.

I Resist's avatar

Here are some facts in a time when nobody seems to care much about them: 1) The US gets no fentanyl from Venezuela. This is verified by the DEA. Venezuela is primarily a drug transit state for cocaine to Europe. So the whole drug thing is primarily bogus to make an easy sell to the MAGA base for the attacks. 2) Russia recently flew offensive missiles into Venezuela and Iran has been active with the Maduro government as well. Venezuela has been shipping its oil to China for about five years. So the real argument for taking out, Maduro is national defense in our hemisphere, but Trump has never stated that. He using drug deliveries to the US. The usual lies and deception, just as he has in Ukraine. I just posted a new article, “What’s Up With Ukraine Peace.”

He is taking pages from Putin and Netanyahu, just rolling and take over. Great just what we need, another country to oversee ! He destroyed our humanitarian network (USAid) He doesn’t want to help Venezuelans, relieve them of their dictator - we can’t even get rid of ours ! He just wants to rape the country and expand his real estate holdings because, make no mistake, he sees everything as HIS !

Truly Trying's avatar

Sorry but Israel was attacked on 10/7 and I don’t see this as the same. I do see it as Putin and I don’t like Netanyahu and I wish he were gone but I still think countries have a right to defend themselves when attacked. And this is where my party loses me.

FJ's avatar

Yes, Israel was brutally attacked. Civilians were murdered. Hostages were taken. Israel had the right to respond. That’s not the debate.

The bullshit starts when “self-defense” is used to justify indefinite war, collective punishment, mass civilian death, and the flattening of entire cities—with no political endgame and no accountability.

That’s not defense. That’s revenge wrapped in a flag.

And spare me the outrage at the Putin comparison. Putin also claimed he was responding to threats, protecting security, and not targeting civilians. Those arguments don’t become moral just because you like the country making them.

You can hate Hamas and still admit Netanyahu is exploiting 10/7 to stay in power, avoid responsibility, and pursue maximalist goals—while civilian suffering becomes a feature, not a bug.

Supporting Israel does not require abandoning proportionality, international law, or basic humanity.

If every action after 10/7 is untouchable, then this isn’t about self-defense anymore—it’s about impunity.

That’s where you lose me.

Truly Trying's avatar

Right - I didn’t say it was untouchable - please come off your high horse. What I said is I can’t compare Israel to Russia in the Russia / Ukraine war. Russia needlessly attacked Ukraine first. That is all I am talking about.

FJ's avatar

No—Israel did not suddenly wake up on 10/7 as an innocent bystander.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. Years of occupation, blockade, settlement expansion, collective punishment, raids, land seizures, and political humiliation didn’t magically stop mattering because Hamas committed atrocities on one day.

Acknowledging that 10/7 was horrific does not erase decades of provocation and escalation by the Israeli state. You don’t get to pretend history started when it became inconvenient.

That doesn’t justify Hamas. It explains the conditions that made this inevitable.

If you want to argue Israel has a right to defend itself, fine—but stop pretending it hasn’t been actively fueling this conflict for years and then acting shocked when it explodes.

Susan J 🗽⚖️💪's avatar

You are so absolutely correct ! Thank you 🥰 Any dog beaten long enough will bite, if they still have the strength before they die !

Truly Trying's avatar

Sorry I’m not going to get into the history of the region with you since that wasn’t what I was responding to. That is a whole conversation for a whole different thread.

FJ's avatar

Great then stop using the excuse that Israel has the right to defend itself. Every country has that right.

Susan J 🗽⚖️💪's avatar

You are correct in that, they were attacked first … this time. You are probably much younger than I am. I remember the six-day war - and Remember the Liberty ‼️ 🛥️ ⚖️

When do we get rid of our illegal ruler?

Laura Pauli's avatar

thank you for coming on and talking about this! please run for president! 🙏🏻🇺🇸

Kari Gunderson's avatar

Why is the military carrying out illegal orders? Why weren't the Democrats briefed about the coup that tRUMP and Hogsbreath initiated?

Eva Seifert's avatar

NOBODY including Rs were briefed.

Kari Gunderson's avatar

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not get a heads up that tRUMP's administration was planning to strike Venezuela and capture president Maduro.

Carol T.'s avatar

I can already see the “TrumpOil” signs.

FJ's avatar

Why are we even involved in this, Maduro being a bad guy is not our concern it was the responsibility of the Venezuelan people to remove him. As for the US military, there is no bravery there. this was an illegal act .

Debbie E's avatar

Agree. With this argument, he would be invading and kidnapping Putin. This is about him. It's about how he can profit from it financially and politically (i.e., EPSTEIN).

Debbie E's avatar

That too. The point is that he cares nothing for the Venezuelan people.

Erin Coleman's avatar

“With such acts, we lose all moral authority to condemn other nations that similarly attack their neighbors or carry out illegal renditions of foreign leaders” from statuskuo on Substack and according to Lev Parnas and medias touch, this is a coordinated effort with Russia and China- to split up the hemisphere and it gives them validity to attack Ukraine/Europe for Russia and Taiwan for China. It is also a grift for the oil- which Trump says we’ll sell to China, and to distract from Epstein files and

Jack Smiths testimony.

Why would US run Venezuela instead of helping Maria Corina Machado or Edmundo Gonzalez?

James DeGraff's avatar

Hmmm! Is Putin being a bad guy also not our concern, presumably because his actions don't negatively affect us? Was Hitler being a bad guy something we should not have been concerned about? Just fight Japan because they attacked us but forget about Europe, the original source of most Americans, because they had the responsibility to stop Hitler but didn't. Hiding our head in the sand is not wise in terms of looking out for our country's security and the welfare of Americans. Malevolent ideologies, nationalism, and policies are like viruses in that they don't respect political boundaries. What happens elsewhere in the world impacts our current and future well-being. The questions are under what circumstances to intervene, how and when to intervene, and based on what moral and legal principles. But at some point, if my neighbor's house is burning down, I'm going to grab a bucket of water.

In Venezuela, the question has been where to draw the line for action against bad behavior that has trampled the rights of millions of people with lives lost. We have millions of Venezuelan refugees living here and millions more scattered across South America and the world. What happens there has a significant impact on our own country. Back to the neighbor example. If my neighbor was in deep trouble and I became aware of it, I would do what I could to help because maybe he is NOT able help himself. And maybe the bad guys going after my neighbor will come after me next.

As far as Trump having any moral high ground to police a failed state, I'm with everyone else and Adam who scratches their head and seriously questions his motivations. Is it just a distraction from his miserable performance as president so far, or his many convictions and losses in civil court, or the Epstein file fiasco, or the many missteps of his totally unqualified secretaries of hullabaloo, and on and on? Does he have a plan, or merely concepts of a plan, or he's just going to see what happens? I would certainly have preferred that these positive actions against a corrupt and illegal Venezuelan government had been taken from a position of high moral principle and with a sound legal basis. But in the end when people are suffering, cannot help themselves, and are in desperate need of relief, does is really matter who does the deed? It doesn't change my opinion of Trump one bit. He's a broken clock that occasionally gets something right for the wrong reasons.

FJ's avatar

Oh good—another “Hitler analogy + burning house + neighbor with a bucket” special. That combo really clears the fog.

Let’s unpack this greatest-hits album:

First, the Hitler card. Nothing says “I’m confident in my argument” like jumping straight from Putin to 1939 Germany in one paragraph. By that logic, every authoritarian on earth is Munich 2.0 and every hesitation is appeasement. History isn’t Mad Libs—you don’t just swap names and call it wisdom.

Second, the “we couldn’t just fight Japan and ignore Europe” line. Right, except the U.S. didn’t jump into Europe out of pure moral clairvoyance—we entered after years of debate, massive public resistance, and only after being attacked. Conveniently omitted, but okay.

Third, the neighbor analogy. Your neighbor’s house is always on fire in these arguments. Funny how it’s never your house, never your budget, never your kids, and never with a clear plan beyond “grab a bucket and feel virtuous.” Foreign policy by parable is adorable, but it’s not strategy.

Now Venezuela. Yes, it’s a disaster. Yes, refugees matter. That still doesn’t magically turn “bad things are happening” into “the U.S. must intervene militarily/politically right now.” If suffering alone were the trigger, we’d be permanently at war on five continents. Selective humanitarianism isn’t morality—it’s vibes.

And then we arrive at the Trump section, where you basically say:

“I don’t trust him, he’s corrupt, incompetent, legally radioactive, has no plan, no principles, no credibility—but hey, if something good accidentally happens, who cares why?”

That’s not moral realism; that’s shrug-based policymaking. “Does it really matter who does the deed?” Yes. It absolutely does. Motives, legality, competence, and consequences are not optional details—they’re the entire point.

Calling Trump a “broken clock” is generous. A broken clock doesn’t randomly set fires while claiming to put them out.

So no, this isn’t about hiding our heads in the sand. It’s about not mistaking moral grandstanding, historical cosplay, and vibes-based intervention for serious foreign policy. If the bar is “something bad might happen somewhere someday,” congratulations—you’ve just justified endless intervention forever, with zero accountability.

But hey, at least the neighbor metaphor survived another outing.

James DeGraff's avatar

Obviously we disagree!

FJ's avatar

“Obviously” doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Disagreement is fine — but hand-waving it away without engaging any of the substance isn’t exactly the mic-drop you think it is. If you want to explain why you disagree, great. If not, that’s less a disagreement and more a drive-by.

Charles Long's avatar

Sounds like you’re promoting America as a vigilante force Adam. How the fuck do we justify “running” a sovereign country???

Adam Kinzinger's avatar

Huh? Where did i say that

Dan Kane's avatar

Maybe the illegal aliens whom Trump has failed to deport could come and take him away. With all his felonies, he needs to be brought to justice. If this country doesn't want to do it, then in an illegal alien nation. The Maduro saga, act Deux.

Unterbrink Randal's avatar

It’s funny how people hear the exact same message and walk away with a different take. I listened to Adam’s message twice and can’t find the claim that Adam is “promoting America as a vigilante force”. Promoting? He didn’t espouse that. It’s a little sad to me that anyone would conclude that about him. But, that’s what we do to each other all the time.

rbeckley's avatar

I didn't hear that at all.

Wait, what? Did you watch something else before commenting on this video?

Linda Heath's avatar

He really does sound like that!! WTH????

I don't think Trump will let the legitimate President of Venezuela take office -- she's not a 'playing ball with Trump' type, and he won't get sufficient grift kickback if she's installed in office. He'll find someone with whom he can split the spoils. (I wouldn't be surprised if Putin stands to get a 'share' of the Country.)

You know, I can't even get angry at Trump anymore because he is, literally, crazy and mentally ill. He doesn't know what he's doing and isn't in his 'right' mind (if he ever was). I blame EVERYONE in Washington who is 'playing by the rules' and letting this happen. If people in Washington don't start thinking outside the box and saying the hell with rules of protocol until this lunatic is out of office, he's going to keep going on mentally ill rampages. Time to wake up, Congress! Don't do your jobs -- DO WHATEVER IS REQUIRED TO GET THIS MADMAN OUT OF OFFICE AND WORRY ABOUT CONSEQUENCES LATER!!

Diana's avatar

Arrest Trump and his entire cabinet. Another unlawful action by the corrupt person who inhabits the White House.

Linda Heath's avatar

How is it a good thing the U.S. kidnapped the President of another country? Are we now Russia? It is up to the people of that country to get rid of a corrupt president. THIS IS ILLEGAL!

Ann Lees's avatar

What awful irony that a convicted felon who tried to overturn the 2020 election violently should single-handedly go after any other bad guy leader anywhere. No consultation with Congress, which is required. His actions are completely unjustified. Illegal.

Charles Long's avatar

THIS all day long!!

GW's avatar

“Maduro was a bad guy”?? Juan Orlando Hernández the former president of Honduras was convicted in the US and Trump pardoned him!! How does this make any sense. Trump has picked his escape route once the truth inside the Epstein files comes out and all roads lead to Venezuela. He’s probably already cut a deal with whoever takes over. I’d start looking for a new Trump hotel in Caracas and Trump interests in Venezuelan oil companies.

Emkaykay's avatar

I was wondering where your emergency video on this was, then I too saw constantly changing news. Thanks for giving us your take in this.

gwpriester's avatar

Things we do know. It's not about democracy because DJT does not believe in democracy. It's not about Maduro being a dictator, because Trump loves dictators. It's not about fighting drug trafficking, because Trump pardoned the convicted drug-trafficking ex-president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández. It's about OIL.

Theresa McGinness's avatar

Thank you so much for the level headed update. My question is Trump really interested in saving their democracy and why not so much for Ukraine’s democracy. Rhetorical question. I know there is no sensible answer with this administration.

Linda Heath's avatar

Hahahaha, Trump does not care about democracy. He has said he admires Putin, North Korea's leader, and China's government!! We are invading and kidnapping another country to get the oil!!
