Trump is mimicking his favorite president, the disgraceful Andrew Jackson, who broke treaties with Native Nations and sent them on the Trail of Tears. But the US government signed contracts with musk’s companies for $38 billion last year
We need to pressure our government to cut ties with the space Nazi before one of his rockets blow up over a major city in the US.

The WSJ (If I recall correctly) had an editorial that basically stated Trump wants America, China, and Russia to split the world into 3 sections. Russia owns all of Europe, China their takes over Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, India, and America owns he Western Hemisphere.
Sounds crazy -- but our (Trump's) treatment of Ukraine tells me it not such a crazy editorial!
I came to the comment section to state exactly what you have written (although i didn’t know about the WSJ). Our president is betraying all of what this country stands for to become an emperor and he’s doing it out in the open. My fear is that most other Republicans are too invested in their identity as a Republican and so deeply hostile to the Democratic party, they won’t be able to see what is right in front of them.
This is more than betrayal. I will say I believe this is collusion. I see it as an act of treachery and treason. I believe it has been planned between Putin and Trump for a long time. Their aim is to carve up the world for themselves. Utter evil
I believe they were planning it at the 2020 election time which Trump promised Putin he was going to win. I think that’s why he tried to overturn it when he lost. He had assumed he would win and would let Putin walk into Ukraine without opposition.
Yes, Kinzinger is an amazing and effective communicator. He has great leadership ability due to the combination of this, as well as his ability to relate to people on a deep and personal level. When you add his courage in standing up to Trump, when others kowtowed - well that is amazing combination to find in one individual.
I also think Sen. Elissa Slotkin has these qualities, as well. I'd love to see a conversation between these two patriots. Throw in Sen Mark Kelly from AZ too (also VERY impressive), and that would be amazing.
All these great Americans, and the many others out there, need to crack through the eggshell that is holding back the opposition. This chick needs to hatch.
The inexplicable, dangerous inaction of the Dem “leadership” is a perfect storm of shock, the righ leaders at the wrong time (thank you Dr John), a lack of imagination (thank you screen time)and fear. The pollsters and advisory teams don’t have a clue as to how to respond to a certifiable coup, so our representatives are on their own. What a disaster.
I agree about the hatching of the opposition, but it needs to be largely grassroots from those not currently in power on the Dems side, although the GOP in congress who have a spine could do it (so far no one).
The only ones to blame for what is happening are Trump and his enablers in the GOP.
Period!
Shifting blame anywhere else makes us less effective at stopping this because the Dems in congress have zero power at all right now in congress and can't help.
The more a Dem congress protests in front of cameras, the more "fodder" right-wing media has to feed the base and convince them that the GOP is "owning the libs" because they are "angry" and this takes away from pointing out the damage Trump and Musk are doing and that the GOP in congress are letting them get away with.
The GOP have full control of congress and are the ONLY ones who can stop this. Period!
Trump intentionally tried to goad the Dems into reactions in his speech in order to get video clips for right-wing media to distract from the damage he is doing and to give cover for the trillions the GOP in congress are about to add to deficits and debt with passing a budget.
The strategy was to stand there and lie about most of his accomplishments and gov waste and fraud (like he always does) while getting red meat responses from the Dems.
Most Dems knew it would be coming and did not take the bait.
Thus, congressional Dems are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They have zero power because they can't get a single piece of leg to the floor and the GOP will be using a simple majority budget resolution process to pass tax cuts (like they did last time) so Dems can't even filibuster.
If the Dems make more noise, that is all it would be - noise and right-wing fodder.
Thus, they are asking people to organize and protest. If they are the "face" of it, that would be all right wing media will talk about and probably the MSM, as well, rather than keeping the pressure on the GOP in congress who have all the power to stop Trump from breaking the law, but simply refuse to do so.
Maybe - but MTG was censured for less (she heckled then sat back down, Green didn't), so honestly that's the bar for censure now which is pretty low. Not sure either should've been censured, honestly, nor should Rep Green have been escorted from the floor. Heck, there used to be fisticuffs and worse on the Senate floor (the two House members entered the Senate Chamber beat Sen Sumner to unconsciousness over Bleeding Kansas and Sumner's abolitionist stance), so with that as a baseline we're doing slightly better...
I would assume they had agreed not to do as he did in advance and yell out since it is against the rules and why they had the paddles to use to keep from having to yell "you lie" like what happened to Obama, but in contrast, Obama was not lying.
They are angry that Trump is breaking rules and laws and going against the Constitution, and that the GOP is doing nothing to stop it and the GOP have all the power to stop Trump but refuse, so to simply excuse one of their own for breaking a rule, because he is one of their own, would be very hypocritical.
No argument on the justification, and agree with the idea that abnormal times require extraordinary action. My only point was that censure is pretty meaningless and that the bar is pretty low for one.
All that said, the Dems need to get their collective ***t together and quickly. There's not a lot they can do on the House and Senate floors with (nearly) no power. But there is a lot they can do in the court of public opinion. There's also the power of people in the streets. Ukrainians, Romanians, Poles, Georgians, and (in 1956 anyway) Hungarians, all know the power of people in the streets peacefully but loudly protesting this insanity.
Adam, I sound like a broken record, but Lev Parnas has all the receipts. I have followed his story for years. He now has a podcast "lev remembers"! The other day he said this is déjà vu, from when Trump sent him to Ukraine to find information on then Joe Biden Den in 2019. Unequivocally, I believe Trump is holding back on aide because Zelenskyy would not go along with Trump's smear campaign against him because he's a lawful man. Lev was sent to Ukraine by Giuliani and Trump. Fox was involved along with some other key players. I would love to see him speak on a zoom with country first or get him on CNN or right here. You know trumps games and lev exposes him after being an insider for a long time 🇺🇦🇺🇸
Trump is threatening sanctions and tariffs against Russia I think must be empty threats since we are pretty near max sanctions and do we trade with Russia. Keep it up Adam. Right wing media claims Ukraine is lost and even legacy media to some extent
He hates Zelensky. Remember the "perfect" phone call that brought on his FIRST impeachment? "I'd like you to do us a favor, though." He will never forgive him and is punishing him at America's expense! Trump is an American traitor who seems to get away with everything. Two impeachments, countless court cases, and he still has followers. I am not proud of being an American at the moment. Lee Greenwood can stuff it!
That would be fantastic! I know his story inside and out. His documentary "from Russia with Lev" multiple interviews, not just on mainstream media, butmany podcasts. Midas touch "burn the boats" podcast. I believe the podcast is also retired Military. Thanks for your response 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
I wasn't following politics back then so I can't comment with certainty. However, having followed politics closely since early 2019, I have to agree with your assessment. For me, there is NOTHING GOOD that can be said about trump. He is a revengeful, vindictive person who has only his personal interests in mind!.
Yep! Absolutely. Trump holds grudges like nothing anyone has ever seen. It is absolutely true that he’s been seething over Zelensky not going along with Trump’s smear campaign against Biden, ever since it happened. If nothing else we should all know by now that Trump is the most viciously vindictive individual ever born, and he will stop at nothing to get back at Zelensky as long as he lives. He will ambush and humiliate the man in the Oval Office, sabotage any true attempts at an actual peace agreement, pull out of any aid to Ukraine, and gladly watch the country burn, purely to satisfy his inner two-year old and his overwhelming need to bully Zelensky into dust. Despicable.
It sure looks like we are on our way to being a disgrace by abandoning Ukraine. The psychopath who sits at the Resolute Desk has no ability to emphasize with and support anyone or anything that cannot make a ‘deal’ that will give him something.
Recall the definition of a psychopath: A clinical term characterized by a pervasive pattern of antisocial behavior, lack of empathy, remorse, and guilt.
2. Schadenfreude (the experience of pleasure and joy resulting from the infliction of pain, suffering, or humiliation of another.
Things that are not related to greed or schadenfreude are trivialities that he generally ignores. If a situation arises where he must chose between them he will always chose greed.
His support of Ukraine was based on them signing over mineral rights, he apparently came to believe that there was no money for him in that deal. So he switched to punishing Ukraine. donOLD lives for Greed and Schadenfreude and nothing else.
America in decline is evident at all levels. This is the most obvious example of antisemitism and corruption at the very highest levels of the Trump cabinet. Read Ruth Ben-Ghiat’s post today in Substack. 🇺🇦
Thank you for your post today Adam!Yes very very true statements you made-we should NOT be abandoning the Ukraine 🇺🇦!!!!While European countries ARE standing by their side and helping supply them with drone’s and other equipment. We need to be the ones also standing by the Ukraine 🇺🇦!
I realize that we as individuals can't help much, but I have made a donation to United24, which is a Ukranian state platform for donations and allows donors to choose how the donation will be spent. I chose defense. Next month I will set up a monthly donation, and I'm hoping that in addition to the piddly financial help, it will also provide some emotional support so that Ukranians will know that the American people are not on the side of the American President in his despicable actions toward them. Once this war is over, I will change that to rebuilding. Maybe others in this community can consider doing the same.
The Budapest Memorandum is a contract between governments and the signers of that agreement are bound by it to provide the support or material agreed upon. I may be wrong if I am correct me. We are under the leadership of a felon and a band of greedy politicians and billionaires who will stab anyone in the back to get what they perceive as theirs.
Wonderful summation, Adam. In a little over a month, when I've felt so much shame because of my country, I'm finding this particular topic brings me the most shame. The betrayal and inability to keep our word, agreed upon and signed on the dotted line for in 1994.
I think the thing that most disgusts me is the inability for Republicans/Maga to feel shame. The Democrats at this moment are hapless, the Republicans are pure evil. Europe, Ukraine, Canada and even Mexico show more true patriotism, honor and dedication to duty than any MAGA "American First" false sentiment, which is simply a jacked up way to say "White Nationalism."
I have questions about how Ukraine can trust us, or Europe, with any intel. I wouldn't trust any intel coming from us. I wonder how Americans don't understand what isolationism will really look like for us, or how even a small sliver of them can imagine Russia has anything that we need or want compared to the alliances that have brought us such wealth, good will and influence.
Trump as a tough guy? That is the funniest joke there is; he's weak, petty, and not overly smart, as is evidenced by his lack of foresight regarding international relations. I hear the word "cunning" used to describe him, but that's a word I associate with crooks and people who rely on lies and distraction. Does that sound familiar? That this country would elect him again does show who we are, regardless of how painful that is to admit.
We could turn the tide, though, but it will probably be the hardest thing this country has had to do in our lifetime. It calls for bravery and not viewing our world through partisan lenses. The lens of the commonality of being an American needs to be the one we view through going forward. I'd like to think that we have the ability to be the next "greatest generation", but I'm not seeing signs of it yet. We don't have too much time left, though. One shuttered election could be the last opportunity we get, and we shouldn't be waiting for any election. All hands on deck now.
This article needs to be a major op-ed for a wider swath to read, although those who need to hear it won't be listening. They're focused on Fox's and the alt-right's carefully crafted anti-democratic ecosphere, and I fear that they won't hear or realize anything until catastrophe occurs, and their lives are irrevocably harmed.
Adam, thank you for all you do. You're a true hero.
Very well written yourself. I lecture my grandchildren whenever I can. Since I am already old at 82 I know that they will be the generation most affected. Meanwhile here we are. Fight on!!
Russia didn't just sell 100 tons of gold because it wanted to, but because it was desperate. To rush to bolster your enemy as it stands on the very brink of failure represents the worst kind of perfidy -- treason by any definition.
One person enabled this treason more than any other -- Mitch McConnell. Had Kentucky Fried Voldemort voted to convict this blackmailer and extortionist in the White House when he had the chance to do so, we would not be in the middle of this nightmare today. He knew exactly who Trump as, yet did not stop him. Had a small group of honorable Republicans joined all Democrats in giving this criminal the heave-ho when it was possible to do so, that would have been that. But Mitch chose his wretched party first. He did Putin's bidding for him. And here we are. A straight line connects the dots....
Ukraine, with the help of its allies in the world, will prevail. They will prove that the US is not the only bullet in their arsenal. And we will be a pariah state, an axis of oligarchy and authoritarianism anchored by Russia and China, with squeaks of approval from Hungary.
Seems to me trump is in debt to Putin for bailing him out of repeated bad deals and bankruptcy since the 1990s. He is Putin’s puppet and he owes Putin.
Excellent post!

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy
Great Post - Amazon blackout should be 365 days.
How about forever!!!
Canceled my Amazon accounts in January...never to spens money again with any thing remotely associated with them.
Trump always "Supports Our Troops", but we just can't afford to keep staffing the veterans suicide hotline. Sorry, maybe call back in 4 years.
If you buy books on Amazon, check out Tertulia Co-Op as an alternative. Plus LOTS of other online sources for books, new and used (Abe Books, for example). Or your library book sales, local used bookstores, etc. It's easy to just automatically go to Amazon, but a lot more interesting and fun to check out new sources.
Abe Books is owned by Amazon. Do not buy from them! Check your businesses. Buy from Thriftbooks, one of the few really independent sellers out there.
Great tip!

"Should be" is the operative phrase. Since the Dems are in the minority in both houses of Congress, it is impossible. :(
Bites doesn't it! Do good things come to those who wait? I can't anymore. trump's a modern-day vampire sucking the life from anything he touches.

I totally agree with you Patricia!!
They were planning it during those phone calls to each other between winning election and swearing in ceremony.
I believe they were planning it at the 2020 election time which Trump promised Putin he was going to win. I think that’s why he tried to overturn it when he lost. He had assumed he would win and would let Putin walk into Ukraine without opposition.

Thank you! My heart breaks for Ukraine.
Is anyone taking this to Raskin, Shiff, somebody?!!!
Worse than an axis of evil is the possibility that the US and Russia will end up cowtowing to China.
Outstanding! Please publish widely as an op-ed. Thank you so very much, Adam!
Seems to me trump is in debt to Putin for bailing him out of repeated bad deals and bankruptcy since the 1990s. He is Putin’s puppet and he owes Putin.
