I’m always comforted by knowing that courageous leaders like you and Liz and so many others are speaking up and not “obeying in advance” but doing everything to elect a different kind of leader.

My grandfather died before I was born, and my grandmother never talked about it, and I was too young to know to ask the questions. America doesn’t have to think too far back to the Japanese internment camps here. They were Americans. Our neighbors, our colleagues. Is this what we can look forward to?
I’m very anxious also, which isn’t helping my IBS any. I’ve started doing a 10 minute guided meditations morning and evening on my Calm app. Ten minutes and I feel it sets me up for the day, and the night meditation helps me sleep.
As the child of Asian immigrants, the sanitized words “internment camps” in history books have always irked me. The truth is—they were prison camps surrounded with barbed wire and armed guards. And thank you for pointing out that the prisoners in those camps were Americans, including children and grandchildren of Japanese immigrants. Yet German immigrants and their children and grandchildren were not treated in this manner. White supremicism is a very ugly thing when it is unleashed!!

The funny thing is too, I realized recently that our schools were editing that part of history in class back then like they are doing or want to do now with African America history. The first time I realized we had Japanese American internment camps in America was as a teacher. I use various forms of media and text to teach reading. One of the lessons I planned was using a Scholastic Magazine play and After School TV movie where the plot focused on that through the main character. Her dad had been in one of those camps. I was shocked and felt ignorant that I never learned that in school but made sure my students would know.
And so glad you are using calm to practice. I heard a futurist in the early 1990s say “spiritual practice is a luxury now but in the 21st century it will be a survival necessity.” How true and wise that message turned out to be.

As a disabled person, reliant on government assistance to survive, the anxiety is super high for me as well. 😔 People don’t realize it, but the mentally and physically disabled were killed off by Hi—-r, too. I’ll be thinking about you, sister! Strength in numbers, and hopefully, this time in a week and a day we will be able to breathe again. ❤️

The US military has a long and strong commitment to the Constitution and to obeying only lawful orders. This tradition was exemplified by Mattis, Kelly, Esper and Milley. I certainly hope that tradition remains in force and that officers will continue to resist unlawful orders. There is no tradition in the US military of an oath to a president.

Like I said, I can’t understand why they never set up places like what we had at Ellis Island. Then she mentioned all these transgender kids. I just don’t see this being a political issue at all!!! Finally when Bill mentioned fascism she said that fascism was when Biden got the DOJ to go after Trump. That really pissed me off!! Trump got his own ass in trouble with the law. I can't begin to say how disappointed I am in my country. How is it possible that this election is as close as it is? What message are we leaving for America's youth? I can't imagine telling my sons, "if you manage to be convicted of 34 felonies, sexually assault multiple women, lie continuously, steal classified documents, use appropriated funds to extort a foreign power for political purposes, and try to overturn the results of a legitimate election, you could someday be president." Of course, that list could have included much more, but it's sad enough that such a person could manage to secure the nomination of one of our major political parties. I suppose it's even sadder that most of the congressional Republicans know that tRump has no business being the Party's nominee, yet, for entirely self-serving reasons, they pretend that he's exactly what the country needs. I can't imagine having to live with that much dishonor, knowing that, in the most profound way, I've betrayed my oath, the Constitution, and the Nation.. Senate Republicans had two chances to make tRump irrelevant...they cowered under their desks in both instances. Getting that deportation thing done is a joke. Where is the money going to come from? How do you hire over 500,000 people to do this? Build the infrastructure? Feed and clothe detainees? Coordinate the transportation--planes, trains and automobiles?
It's not as easy as people think. It is a huge undertaking and there will be resistance in every possible way.
If he succeeds in rounding up people, the economic disruption will make the detention centers into forced labor camps because "real" Americans don't do those jobs.
What his followers don't seem to understand is that the economic disruption that deportation will INCREASE the prices they pay for groceries, home construction, home repairs, lawn care, hotel housekeeping because those workers will be gone. Econ 101... supply and demand.

The comedian, whose schtick was vetted and placed on the teleprompter by campaign staffers, was perfectly fine with telling the American people exactly who they are, what they think and feel, and what they will do if given half a chance. Any person of color who will now vote and has heard these speeches will likely vote for Harris, and any who already voted will like be feeling regret right now. That can only be good for the country.
Yes, I am very scared of him being re-elected, primarily because, in essence, his entourage will be elected with him. Getting that deportation thing done is a joke. Where is the money going to come from? How do you hire over 500,000 people to do this? Build the infrastructure? Feed and clothe detainees? Coordinate the transportation--planes, trains and automobiles?
It's not as easy as people think. It is a huge undertaking and there will be resistance in every possible way.
If he succeeds in rounding up people, the economic disruption will make the detention centers into forced labor camps because "real" Americans don't do those jobs.
What his followers don't seem to understand is that the economic disruption that deportation will INCREASE the prices they pay for groceries, home construction, home repairs, lawn care, hotel housekeeping because those workers will be gone. Econ 101... supply and demand.
Trump is big into forced labor; he thinks people are supposed to quit their jobs, or retire when they don’t met required age, with no funds, and then somehow have enough money to travel internationally on their own time and dime promoting his agenda. Not only that, he has told me to carry a weapon. In his mind I’m supposed to be a covert spy, sending me to Italy and Mexico: no kidding. The future looks so dismal if I even have imagine him leading this country.

He did not have issues with having amassed 30% of the national debt at the time of 01/06. The $ will come from the poor and helpless by removing all safety nets (except for his and his boot lickers own stashes).

I may be the only one, but Trump’s MSG rally and the responding backlash has left me oddly calm. Maybe it’s the level of outrage and disclaimers from republicans, or the cautions optimism of Kamala Harris, or the blatant and unapologetically shocking rhetoric that came out of that rally, but it feels very much like they finally went too far and Americans are finally figuring out how awful Trump is. If you are brown Trump is talking about you, no matter what kind of brown you are, and he will marginalize you and try to deport you even if you are a US citizen (like all Puerto Ricans). The comedian, whose schtick was vetted and placed on the teleprompter by campaign staffers, was perfectly fine with telling the American people exactly who they are, what they think and feel, and what they will do if given half a chance. Any person of color who will now vote and has heard these speeches will likely vote for Harris, and any who already voted will like be feeling regret right now. That can only be good for the country.
Yes, I am very scared of him being re-elected, primarily because, in essence, his entourage will be elected with him. This then paves the way for Vance to eventually be President -- which is just as disturbing. Sometimes I feel like this country is entering into a death spiral... yet I still believe there is hope that we will be able to get out just in time.
