I am shocked how major institutions, universities, corporations, veteran’s organizations even major hospital systems losing research dollars have all gone quiet. This is the time for Democratic leaders to lead protests across the nation. I see the country I loved disappearing. Adam as always thank you for speaking out.

Sioux Fleming's avatar

Columbia University didn’t just go quiet, they agreed to Trump’s scheme if an academic receivership with respect to DEI and other issues and to prevent students from wearing masks, at least while protesting, and my first thought was to wonder what would happen to some poor person who had a cold, wore a mask and was walking by in campus.

Joan Bailey's avatar

Or a student with some medical condition, who is immunocompromised and needs to wear a mask. What should he/she do? Quit college? How utterly ridiculous and pathetic!

Ian Mark Sirota's avatar

There's more to it than that. Ask any Jewish student how they feel being confronted by dozen or even hundreds of masked individuals screaming for the annihilation of the one Jewish state in the world. And, the school has already made it clear that if you have a medical reason to wear a mask, you are to continue doing it.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says his mother-in-law wouldn't complain if her Social Security check didn't arrive this month. That's maybe because your a Billionaire, IDIOT!!! We need a Smedley Butler!!!

Major General Smedley Butler, in his testimony before Congress in 1934, stated: "My interest is, my one hobby is, maintaining a democracy." He also warned that if 500,000 soldiers advocated anything smelling of Fascism, he would mobilize 500,000 more and there would be a real war in the United States. We need a Smedley Butler to step forward!!

I believe in trying everything, how can it hurt?

Thank you for saying what most of corporate media did not in response to that bilge. I now collect social security retirement benefits and my household would be in deep shit if the money didn’t come on time. Most if us don’t have a billionaire family member to hit up for a payday loan…

justin SG's avatar

YES! Plus the fact that Lutnick said: If you complain, that means you are a fraudster! NO it doesn't. It means you NEED the money NOW! Billionaires, like Lutnick, Musk and Trump are so disgusting. They DO NOT care about working Americans. They are kleptocrats and con men.

Cats 🐈🐈‍⬛'s avatar

Sioux, I am in the same boat with you. I do have a millionaire brother, but he is full on maga(t) and I barely speak to him. I have been following the social security news very closely. With the really stupid and nasty changes they are making at the SSA, I plan to find a way to assist seniors who need help with using technology to make their desired changes. I don’t know how to get involved, but I will find out and do it.

I plan to be at the protest rally in Austin, tx (not capitalized due to my disgust with this fucked-up state) on April 5th.

Jerry L. Martin's avatar

We all need to move beyond noticing, analyzing, and decrying. We need to take action -- as individuals and as groups. Thanks for linking to major 50 state protest! Everybody needs to go and take your family and friends with you. This is the moment of truth!

John/ Bring It On 🤠🌵🪖's avatar

Pressure is starting to build and it may take one major incident to really set people off. We'll see!!!

Jerry L. Martin's avatar

Yes, I think you are right but we can't wait for a magic moment. We need to bring the moment about by starting now, with action not just words. In my area, we have Ukrainians. Yesterday I contacted some of them trying to get them activated -- they can demand meetings with their congressman and such. See how is around you who can be activated and help them do it.

Diane1's avatar

I'm going to the one near me!

Ballard Graham's avatar

There are quite a few of us Seniors that depend on entirely on our monthly SS payments to survive! Missing just one payment most likely would be devastating for us to even recovery should we face a catastrophic event, which becomes increasingly possible as we age!

Joan Bailey's avatar

I have been shocked at the networks and universities capitulating to the orange man-baby’s demands. How do any of the people of these organizations look at themselves in the mirror each day? And do they think they’ll never have to confront a similar scenario later on? And what might be his demands the next time? Will they cave again? And again? When would it stop? They(and we) are screwed.

Janine's avatar

Joan my thoughts as well. He will never be satisfied. Like a ghoul wanting more and more

NOPE - WE have power - we must rally and demonstrate and keep contacting our representatives!!!

John/ Bring It On 🤠🌵🪖's avatar

Here we are trying to stop these tyrants from taking over our country and now we have a top law firm Paul Weiss and a top University (Columbia) caving in to the lunatics. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

Richard Breining's avatar

Add them both to the boycott list. Don't hire the law firm and don't enroll in the university. (Easier said than done, but the attitude we need to take!)

John/ Bring It On 🤠🌵🪖's avatar

About 90 Paul Weiss former associates signed their names to a letter Monday criticizing chairman Brad Karp’s deal with the Trump administration. https://www.commoncause.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Paul-Weiss-alumni-letter.docx.pdf BRAVO!!!!

“Musk, the world’s richest man, has also pledged to bankroll the re-election campaigns of any lawmakers who support judicial impeachments.” How is this possible? Aren’t there guardrails to stop billionaires from buying elections? Isn’t this a campaign finance issue, or ethics, or some violation of which I have no knowledge? Can someone explain to me like I am 5 years old.

Marlene Sweet's avatar

No guardrails since SCOTUS approved "Citizens United", allowing unlimited political donations from corporations as if they are "citizens". We have an incompetent SCOTUS right now...

Lynette Crain's avatar

Thanks, Marlene. Apparently this case was decided in 2010 and commended by Mitch McConnell that it represented a step in restoring First Amendment rights!! So it is a decision based on a First Amendment right to give special interests and lobbyists and billionaires all the power in Washington. And each individual state. If there are no brakes, how will it stop? Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Thanks to gwpriester for sharing as well. Sadly, this knowledge makes me feel even less secure about our future.

Marina Oshana's avatar

One of the worst SCOTUS decisions of the century.

Derek Smith's avatar

In simpler, but cruder terms, “money talks; bullshit walks.” Financing a political election/re-election, and the offensive ‘primarying’ threat is but loose change to the multi-billionaire Musk. He was willing to spend $250m to purchase the presidency; spending as much, or even more, to purchase Reps and Senators, is chump change.

Marty Smith's avatar

musk is buying magats in Cheesehead land to secure votes in the judicial election in Wisconsin. Notice that the state has con and sin in their name?

Diane1's avatar

Here's a link to phone bank for Susan Crawford who is running against the MAGA judge

https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/?tag_ids=26001

Diane1's avatar

there's been a big push from nonprofits to rally for the democrat judge- I think her name is Susan something. They are asking for people to call voters etc.

Richard Breining's avatar

Musk is also bankrolling the election of a maga candidate to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which will give it a maga majority.

Anyone and everyone that can contribute to the non-maga candidate is encouraged to do so. We individually may not have much to contribute, but if enough of us do contribute, we have an opportunity outspend Musk and save the people of Wisconsin from an authoritarian Wisconsin Supreme Court.

If we do this in every election that Musk meddles in, we might also cause Musk to think twice before wasting his money meddling in other elections.

The rich have 'bought' this nation. If enough of us contribute whatever we can to reasonable non maga candidates, maybe we can collectively 'buy' the nation back again.

Richard Breining's avatar

Quoting Tom Homan "I don't care what the judges think...".

That quote says it all. It's not only trump that defies the Courts, but also those that support and surround him!

This is the most corrupt and lawless misAdministration in American history!

I have joined other 9th District constituents in Indiana in organizing an empty seat town hall. I went to our rep’s office in DC today to hand deliver our letter of invitation while in DC with my kids. None of us have done anything like this before. We know our rep won’t come so we are lining up experts in key areas to help explain what’s going on. I hope it helps!! 🤞

Mara Lesemann's avatar

I really like your work BUT please clarify that shipping these guys to El Salvador is "rendition" not "deportation," which would take place if they were returned to their home country of Venezuela. There's a big and important difference.

Richard Breining's avatar

An important difference indeed, which really doesn't apply in this discussion.

What applies is the question of (a) whether ir not those who were shipped to El Salvador recieved due process first and (b) whether or not the misAdministration wilfully ignored a Court Order that instructed the planes to turn around and return to US soil.

Both of which occurred before any "rendition" or "deportation" happened.

Sioux Fleming's avatar

Details are still thin on the ground but reports say El Salvador sent back one of the alleged gang members because she was a woman and it was a men’s prison. How exactly did ICE not notice this? Another is a gay barber who had a tattoo or tattoos and was here legally after applying for asylum.

I have tattoos. I have written criticism of Trump and his cabal of minions and evidence of this can be found in my electronic devices. I didn’t have plans to travel outside the US right now anyway but if I did I’d sure be rethinking that.

Nancy's avatar

If tattoos were the issue, Hegseth should be gone! He has some pretty awful ones! It's not the tattoos. It's just playing god with whatever whim takes him and his minions.

Sioux Fleming's avatar

Hegseth isn’t in charge of ICE or the DOJ and while I have plenty of issues with him, this particular one isn’t at his door,

Diane1's avatar

I think Nancy's point is that the admin said their evidence to prove they were in that gang was that they had tattoos supposedly related to the gang. Hegseth has tattoos that relate to white extremist groups, including some that flew banners with the same phrase from the tattoo on Jan. 6.

Thank you for your post today Adam!!!We are definitely living in MAGA cult clan Craziness!!!We the people need to stand up and make sure OUR rights are protected!!!!

Mary Lou Coughenour's avatar

Like the man at the town hall that said he was tired of hearing the problem stated and restated ( I’m very much paraphrasing) I am too. Adam, we are aware of the issues and are trying to figure out the solution. As they say “ talk is cheep.” What do we do? How do we find those people who are willing to fight and put themselves at risk? Until that (or something like that) happens we will continue to state and restate the problem which gets us nowhere. Adam, what is the path forward?

Richard Breining's avatar

The way forward is when everyone reading or commenting on various posts, podcasts and the like, get off of the couch and protest! We need more LOCAL protests, in addition to those happening in Washington, big cities and State Capitols.

United We Stand! (perhaps a good name for our movement?)

Richard Breining's avatar

Our protest signs could say United We Stand across the top followed by For... or Against..., followed by whatever thie individual feels is important to support or resist..

The possibilities are endless but whatever they are, United We Stand!

Just a thought...

John/ Bring It On 🤠🌵🪖's avatar

We need bodies and lots of them. Even if you don't have a sign show up anyway. Drive around in your car beeping your horn in support if you can't walk with the protesters. This the time to start doing something before it's to late!

One of my signs simply says- Stop the Madness!

Hence the need for impeachment, treason charges for the administration and those aiding and abetting him.

After Nixon, I never thought the US would be in a position this dire. Due mainly from an ignorant population that failed to believe what their dear leader told us through historical voice and actions.

Makes me want to puke.

Sal Teodoro's avatar

I’m ready. Let’s go. This clown needs to see a million people defend on Washington as well as the coward Republicans in congress. That’s the only thing that will deter him, them, or both.

Joan Bailey's avatar

And maybe even that wouldn’t get through to him. Remember, he thinks he’s the smartest person in the room, the guy who is “our” retribution, “only I can save you” mentality will prohibit him thinking we are marching in protest of him. He’ll declare martial law and send in troops. But doing nothing is a debacle and extremely dangerous for the country. So we don’t have a choice to remain silent. If we go to jail, so be it.

Marty Smith's avatar

He will not need troops. The magats will suffice for the use of violence toward anti-magat protesters. We have the brains; but they have their version of the 2nd Amendment and a deranged belief in their right to do whatever to save their version of America.

Joan Bailey's avatar

You’re right, and that’s what’s scary.

I do not hope to have to protect democracy with violence, but the magats who lean falsely on the second amendment are not the only people who own guns.

So, what steps need to be taken to prohibit big donations that buy elections and threaten those who oppose the kangaroo keystone kop's agenda (illegal in many cases)?
