Shared to BlueSky...thank you, John!

Thanks Adam! So great to see 2 of my American heroes discuss the current events of today!

I am someone who has basically voted for the quality of the candidate vs. party.

I am ready for a moderate party that can accept more-like minded voters. I think we can limit the number of people who are extreme right or left by making the economic divide not as wide as the Grand Canyon! Simply get the top 1% to pay their fair share! I know! Easier said than done! However, when magas decrease in size and popularity, it would be easier to do because more will see trump's ilk's goal is more wealth!

Thanks and God bless you and Michael!

Steph's avatar

Agree! I want some content about talking to lost centrists. I am socially lefty, but economically center-right. I want to reassure centrists and lost right of centers that there’s a safe space for them

Cindy Marshall's avatar

Steph, we're politically the same!

Jordan Sollitto's avatar

Both: I think there are millions of us out here that self describe more or less as you have. It's just hard to out shout the far fringes of the parties with our moderate message. But we're out here trying.

Marty Beert's avatar

I voted for democracy, as the recent election was about a choice between democracy and autocracy. More voters chose against 47 than for him. That bit of data encourages hopefulness.

Diane1's avatar

actually with regard to the voter results, more chose trump although it was less than 1% more.

CathyP's avatar

I thought the number who voted for either Harris or someone else was greater than the number who voted for Trump.

Harris - 75,019,230

Other - 2,878,359

Total Harris + Other = 77,897,589

Trump - 77,303,568

Diane1's avatar

You are correct. I misread the post I was responding to. I was not including the 'other' votes. I was referring to trump getting more votes than Harris- about 1.47% more. But it is somewhat hopeful that more people voted against trump. Too bad that 2,878 didn't see the importance of their vote. To me they basically gave their vote to trump.

Cathy R's avatar

I forgot the number but so many people didn't vote. We somehow need to engage everyone.

Deirdre LaMotte's avatar

Oh yeah, I love how attacking Tesla is now deemed β€œdomestic terrorism” but when Kindergarten students get killed by automatic

Weapons the GOP’s response is β€œthoughts and prayers” . I hate this!!

Rod's avatar

If we can get more people leaving messages on the phones or talking to people in the congressman’s office, we’ve got to push the point… That what’s happening has nothing to do with democracy or common sense and the GOP is abdicating their responsibilities and we’re tired of it

My Rep just has a "full mailbox". Write him? Everyone gets the same form letter. One of my Senators (both are women, both are Democrats) voted to pass that CR. I wrote her and got a lecture on the system of checks and balances and I told her that I was old enough to have taken Civics AND Government and had to take and pass a test on both so I was very aware that all that is now out the window. I stopped before telling her that she was gaslighting and should pay more attention. I will be interested to see if either of them do a town hall.

My rep (Nightmare supporter) had about a thousand people outside his office here in Reno, and tsk, no one was home.

Speaking of attacking the opposition, Erdogan just jailed his opponent.

Sonja G's avatar

Well said Pamela Wing. Same experience here in Kentucky with Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul. At least Rep Brett Guthrie sent me an email with a letter on Congressional letterhead. I don't agree with what he said but whatever. . .Protest on.

Rod's avatar

You know in the country first day of action Thursday at 1 o’clock they have everyone make phone calls for 15 minutes if you have 500 people on the line each one makes four phone calls that’s 2000 calls in 15 minutes… If you have 3000 people on the line then you make four phone calls each that’s 12,000 calls in 15 minutes… Do the math …just do it! It’s a healthy addiction!!

Then they have some discussion afterwards and take feedback from the callers

Diane1's avatar

I was on one of those zooms- it's good to do it as a group.

Adam and Michael, you are so correct about our current situation: it’s not right or left, it’s democracy versus fascism. The pro-democracy tent encompasses a Liz Chaney AND an AOC. It needs Michael Fanone and Adam Kinzinger as well as Bernie Sanders and Tammy Duckworth. It needs all of us who care about the Constitution and democracy and the rule of law.

angela r subera's avatar

I see Bernie and AOC as hope. I feel like they are fighting for the American people.

Rod's avatar

Yes, I think it was great. I also typed in a few times. It’s probably a great time to put a plug for country first and the day of action… Get more people on that… Keep up the great work we all need to do more. Rod from Indiana. I like the idea you doing town halls.

Mike McCourt's avatar

The reason they are using Signal is blatantly obvious. They are using it to avoid any accountability on oversight from Congress!

Diane1's avatar

it's illegal as they are destroying the government records that are required to save in the Archives.

Mike McCourt's avatar

Ya these things communications are subject to the Presidential records act and are supposed to be saved on highly protected Gov systems...not deleted in 4hour or whatever Signal setting they had it on!

Marty Beert's avatar

I viewed live, most of it. Fanone has picked up the gauntlet and is a true patriot. The central issue is democracy! I’ve written before, I think many citizens confuse democracy with the Democratic Party. Truth is dying. The recent incident with war planning on public space further demonstrates the ineptitude of the 47th’s president selections (ineptitude is a nice word for my real thought). MAGA networks make light of this treasonous act…as expected it’s yesterday’s news. No accountability! Lies. lies Lies…Orwellian times we now live. You took time, Adam, once again to voice β€œman up” … I’m a female who led an organization. It isn’t about gender, it’s about qualifications. Strength isn’t just a male quality. Men who are both strong and compassionate … women, too. When I hired, gender or life style or race wasn’t the issue. Qualifications the issue. So, when I hear you say we need to get men to be masculine … aka macho…there’s much more to being male. The problem, in my opinion, is the distrust of government because many do not understand (or care to understand) the constitution and the significance of democracy. Chris Hays book β€œThe sirens’ call” explains β€œhow attention became the most endangered resource.” Are citizens paying attention? Does the next best topic erase the last topic? 47 and his cult love chaos …people grow weary and tune out. Summary: citizens must stand together for democracy!

CathyP's avatar

I think Adam was saying compassion *is* masculine.

Sue McAulay's avatar

I agree that many confuse democracy and democrats. And yes, a treasonous act that Republicans are downplaying. Not only is Signal not secure, I'm sure those involved thought they would just erase the whole conversation violating the Federal Records Act.

I’m in my 60’s, the daughter, niece, grand daughter and great great daughter of Marine Generals and Colonels. I see a conflict coming.

Sorry, if that saves our nation…bring it on.

Agent#99's avatar

I feel the same way Deirdre. I am almost 70 and am a Daughter of the American Revolution! It may be a necessary conflict...hope not...but it may be. For the sake of my children and grandchildren's futures, I keep doing whatever I can.

Adam- Here's the quote you were referencing:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak outβ€”because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak outβ€”because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak outβ€”because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for meβ€”and there was no one left to speak for me.

β€”Martin NiemΓΆller- prominent German pastor. NiemΓΆller was well-known for his opposition to the Nazi regime and as a former victim of Nazi persecution. He publicly confessed his own inaction and indifference to the fate of many of the Nazis’ victims. He used phrases such as β€œI did not speak out…” or β€œwe preferred to keep quiet.” He explained that in the first years of the Nazi regime he had remained silent as the Nazis persecuted other Germans, especially members of leftist political movements with whom he disagreed.

This quote has been part of the permanent exhibition at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum since its opening in 1993.
