Wow. I read this and see the integrity, heart, wisdom, compassion and skill shared by you and your comrades. It is such a stark contrast to some of the empty shells occupying house, senate, cabinet and president of the U.S. seats at the moment. More military service is essential in the mix of those who represent us.
Totally agree, Julia, about needing the character of these brave veterans in the day to day workings of our government. We’ve already asked them to do so much for us, dare we ask them to do more?

We needed more Republicans who will stand up for the truth not the ones in Congress today who are afraid to say anything against trump. They are so afraid of losing their seat and the power they have in Congress. Is that power so consuming that they cannot stand up for the truth!?! I'm praying that a majority will lose their seat in the midterm to Democrats so they can start to heal our country by impeaching trump, his regime and the 6 on the Supreme Court.
I'm a non-veteran who's always been fascinated by the unsung heroes of combat, the guys who made the missions of others be successful, the evacs, the medics, the suppliers, the radio operators, the background guys, the USS Indianapolis carrying the bomb to Tinian (as we passed the dark anniversary of Hiroshima only yesterday), that single English weather forecaster watching the unsettled conditions over the Channel -- Eisenhower delayed Operation Overlord an entire day because of her forecast. There is simply so much connected to 'but for want of a nail' most of us never hear anything about. Thank you.
Speaking of F-16s. I will never forget the time after 9-11 when, late at night, when we couldn't sleep, we would hear the F-16s take off from Ellington and fly overhead. We were safe and finally could go to sleep. Thank you to all the men and women who keep us safe, like you, even when we don't know you are there.

I was raised in an engaged “mixed” family, one parent Republican, one Democrat; we need two healthy and sane parties that work together.

My father was a navigator of an air sea rescue plane in WW2. He only told me one story about his experience.
The plane had rescued 3 men from the ocean near the Philippines which made the plane heavier thus using more fuel.
He had to calculate how much fuel could be dumped in order to get to the landing site.
After a long pause in the story he said, “We landed on fuems but didn’t lose a man”. Don’t think I spelled feums correctly either time!
