I’m live in your old district in Northern Illinois. When I drive through Dekalb County and down to LaSalle County I still see all the Farmers for Trump signs in farm yards. I always wonder what it will take for them to wake up. I guess when I see for sale signs and foreclosure signs next to their Trump signs I’ll know.

Adam Kinzinger's avatar

It’s unreal. Takes a while for them to admit

littlebird787's avatar

They will never admit it in any numbers worth investing in: they all keep drinking trump's poisonous kool aid. We just have to out-vote these delusional idiots and forget them. I have a lot of respect for you, Adam, but I make no apologies for 1) having a real world view on their stupidity and 2) not being interested in generating pointless sympathy just because they eagerly volunteered to get taken to the cleaners by their fake 'gold' gawd. They can get back to us when they have chosen to stop salivating over faux noise. Until then, they can lump it on their own.

Richard Breining's avatar

When one plays with fire, one takes the risk of being SEVERELY BURNED or even dying from their self-inflicted injuries. Those who survive often will not admit their error, but the scars left behind will be clear for everyone to see.

littlebird787's avatar

Right now we’re all on fire and will carry the scars forever.

Richard Breining's avatar

Yes. Unfortunately those who played with fire have gotten us ALL burned. Let's pray that those of us who knew to stay away from the fire only have mild (or no permanent) scarring.

I Resist's avatar

And to add insult to injury when the farmers start making more noise about their losses he will get Congress to pass a bailout program for them and you know who’s going to pay for that!

Yep! :) That's what he pulled off the last time he made a mess of the ag markets with the China trade war and then talked in the 24 campaign how the farmers loved him.

SGJones's avatar

One thing is for certain...far too many voters were duped by Drumpf...he often claims he loves people then stabs them in the back. He'll never tell you the truth to your face...that he's planning to screw you economically. Just today he claimed he loved Canadians...and in the same breath said he doesn't need us...he doesn't want us to help build American cars...so wants to take our industry away for good...strip families of full time employment...and the communities that support these industries with them. DRUMPF DOESN'T LOVE ANYONE...DOESN'T CARE ONE IOTA FOR YOU. He also claims he wants to stop the killing in Ukraine and Gaza [Palestine]...but HE DOESN'T GIVE A F**K ABOUT THEIR LIVES...he's got another agenda...he simply wants the NOBEL PRIZE around HIS NECK...to ELEVATE HIS STATUS in the WORLD...WHILE HE PLUNDERS IT TO DEATH!

Only the LORD knows why he's been accepted to the VATICAN to witness the FUNERAL OF A GREAT and HUMBLE MAN...that being POPE FRANCIS who helped to UNITE THE WORLD...a MAN who honoured ALL WALKS OF LIFE...regardless of RELIGION, COLOUR and CREED...THIS, A MAN WHO TRULY LOVED THE WORLD.

To think that a man of Drumps caliber will be in Rome for this RELIGIOUS OCCASION is TRULY SACRILEGIOUS!!

I can only hope he is met with a GRANDE CONFESSIONAL...but then we know him better than that...don't we!!

He'll never admit the TRUTH...He's a FALSE PROPHET...and the FARMERS of THE LAND KNOW IT TO!!

Warden Gulley's avatar

Admission may never come. A recent You Tube post by a psychologist described what will happen as "Quiet Quitting". There will be no admission of the poor decision they made. There will be no acknowledgement of their being misled or duped by their precious candidate. It cannot occur. Instead, they will just quietly fade away and stop venomously advocating for the guy who now has doomed their financial futures.

Gordon Hoffman's avatar

I suppose they will stop listening to Fox News telling them that things are going as planned.... very well, expect to feel a little pain. I'm the mean time we'll have to increase the awareness of consumer protection laws.

Timothy Eble's avatar

A lot of NAZIs did not admit it until Russia marched into Berlin killing everybody in sight. A little late. The GOP has become a corrupt truth denying, science hating cult.

Republicans now embrace delusions and Faux News. Democrats embrace facts.

Maria K.'s avatar

I am in Western North Carolina. Even though it's a generally more liberal area - Asheville is one of those little islands of blue in the sea of read - there are LOTS of Trump signs here too. And yes, sure enough, there were at least two houses I regularly drove by, that had HUGE Trump banners - like wall-size. Both now have foreclosure signs in their front yards.

Susan Falzo's avatar

So sad. Why doesn’t main stream news cover these things?

littlebird787's avatar

It’s not at all sad: These idiots have it coming. They made their racist, misogynist, delusional beds and now they have to lie in them. What is sad is that the rest of us are going to have to live with trump’s insanity, too, even though we voted for the adult in the room.

Lois Henry's avatar

Votes were not all motivated by racism etc. Most people believed Trump was a successful business man because he played one on TV. They didn’t know the shows were scripted and the character a fiction with a string of bankruptcies behind him in real life.

virginia arthur's avatar

That I can’t feel sorry for them about. I did not know anything about trump, so I read up on him. SIX BUSINESS BANKRUPTCIES! Who does that? I read how he refused to pay people who had done business with him. He ruined them. I read about his shady business deals and his serial cheating on ALL THREE of his wives. Then the Access Hollywood video came out. There was no way that I would vote for him despite having been a registered Republican for 45 years! I voted for Hillary and then became a Democrat after seeing what a horrible job he was doing as president. I will not live long enough to see the Republican Party return to it’s roots. I believe we need a new Party to take the GOP’s place. How about the American Independent Party? Let the GOP be the third party if it survives after this. The MAGA crowd will still be running the GOP for a long time. I want no part of it.

Robot Bender's avatar

I lived through his business career, such as it was. People my age (60s) have no excuse for not knowing he is a conman, a criminal, a business flop. He was constantly on TV and newspapers with his bankruptcies, lawsuits, and grifting.

Austen Musil's avatar

I believe the Republican party will survive with the Republicans like Adam & Liz & other anti Trump Republicans holding on to it. I don't even call the Republicans in office who cater to Trump Republicans anymore. They're MAGA. Many of them would probably prefer that anyway. It makes more sense than for them to call the actual Republicans RINOs.

I laugh when I hear someone in their 30's call Mitch McConnell a RINO 😅. I'm like, "Hun, that man was a Republican before you were even born!". I feel like if the MAGAs in office were called MAGAs rather than Republicans, it could help pull away the people who voted Republican because they always do but aren't really that engaged away from them.

I know that seems crazy but sometimes it really is all in the name. People cling to their political parties now like the life long fan of a particular sports team, or a specific religious denomination. There are people who will vote for the Republican on the ticket regardless of who the candidate is just as people will stand by their sports team no matter who the coach or the quarterback is.

So, I'm curious what would happen with some of the Trump voters if those in office who are firmly behind Trump became known as the MAGA party... Like Mike Johnson? MAGA. Lisa Murkowski? Republican. MTG? MAGA. Susan Collins? Republican.

Now... I'm sure the MAGA in office wouldn't be on board with becoming the MAGA party for the very reason I just explained. They know that a portion of their voters vote for them just because they have that R by their name. In a Red safe district or state, that R is their job security.

However, there are many instances that the recipients of the label or nickname aren't crazy about it. The hippies, for example, weren't fans of the label (I read this somewhere, not sure of the source). If they just start being called MAGA, what are they going to do about it?

I know people who used to resent being called MAGA & now they embrace it. And for those who support Trump, why wouldn't they embrace the name? I think this is more logical than trying to rename the Republican party. Lincoln created the Republican party (even though it was the Progressive Left wing ideological party back when it was created; & the Democratic party was the conservative Right wing ideological party).

The party labels have changed definitions before, the words Democrat & Republican are defined by the people who label themselves as such. They're made up words, as all words are but many words are derived from other words. These words obviously come from the words democracy & republic. Yet, if you think about it, the words are interchangeable. Our country is a Republic-- meaning we have representatives who pass laws & vote on our behalf. We use democracy or a democratic process when the people cast their votes to elect our representatives who represent us.

There's probably some historical story regarding how the words Democrat & Republican became the names of the parties but I don't know the details of those stories (other than Lincoln creating the Republican party but idk how he decided on the name other than to make the assumption that it's based on us being a Republic.. I think there was a Democratic Republican party prior to Lincoln maybe? I'm not sure & it's not important to my point).

All I know is that the names of the parties have survived a century or 2 & they've even completely switched definitions. I think it's much more feasible that the label "Republican" will continue to survive. I think it can survive in the ideal way if the actual conservative Republicans hang on to it by changing the name of the majority of the Republicans in office to MAGA. Just my thinking anyway.

Lois Henry's avatar

Well, yes I knew all that stuff about Trump too but I’ve always been a Democrat. I never listen to right wing radio or watch Fox ‘News’ so I figured most Trump voters were just going with all the flag waving rallies and having their heads stuffed with lies. Indeed racism and misogyny were built in but I still give benefit of doubt to those who were just swamped with misinformation and who do not have the skill of analytical thinking. You are the exception rather than the rule. Some very intelligent and educated people use what’s been called ‘magical thinking’ in their everyday lives and it does not serve them well. Nevertheless, it’s a hard thing to change.

littlebird787's avatar

trump voters absolutely are motivated by nothing but racism and misogyny. These are the only things that move their needles. They have gleefully and cruelly abrogated the fundamental rights of over half of the population. FYI one of the descriptions of slavery under international law is the government denial of bodily autonomy — you know, as in women don’t have legal control over the decision making for their own bodies. American women are NOT citizens since the scotus fascists removed their bodily autonomy. ALL American women are sexual slaves. Citizens have full rights, slaves do not. You can be a citizen or a slave but never, ever both.

Bruce Higginbotham's avatar

I am sympathetic to your point of view, Solange 33, but I don't agree that Trump voters are motivated by "nothing but racism and misogyny." People are complex. I have a grandson who voted for the 1st time as an 18-year-old. He voted for Trump because he wants to fit in with his friends. He has no idea what he is doing. Your description doesn't fit him and it doesn't fit a lot of people. Don't monster-make. They deserve censure, but not damnation.

Lois Henry's avatar

Yeah - some folks are just assholes that’s true. Others need someone to feel ‘better’ than.

Dorothy's avatar

Do farmers even have the time to watch TV? I think often, all they have is conservative talk radio to listen to and brainwash their minds. These same folks probably have never left their county or home State, let alone read a newspaper or publication from New York, DC or California. Their local news is not helpful either. I know because I traveled for a living (37 years total), and have been to all the lower 48 States and Hawaii many, many times. Example: Wichita does excellent farm reports and local yokel news stories, but very little of anything else. This is why its important for candidates to travel to the Heartland and do town halls, which is what Bill Clinton did for the win. As for my hine State California, I have no idea why our farmers continue to support Trump. Not only because of what he did after the recent wildfires to sabotage the farmers' summer water irrigation supply, but putting conditions on FEMA assistance, levying uncalled for tariffs on our best trading partners, ending the food assistance to needy countries abroad ... and so much more. Our California farmers grow about 80 percent of our produce and 90 percent of garlic (much of which is traded with China).

Then there is all the food our farmers supply to restaurants and airline catering kitchens. Another huge loss due to the boycott of travel to the U.S. This is a worldwide economy now and has been for quite awhile, whether Trumpers like it or not.

Bob Stine's avatar

What's sad? These assholes wrecked out country; it will take generations to restore our place in the world, if we ever do. I hope they all go broke and lose everything - they earned it!

Corporate Media is obeying in advance. I stopped watching mainstream media right before the election. I became so frustrated with how they never emphasized the lies and misinformation that Drump was spewing. I subscribed to Adam and also get my news from podcasts. The Meidas Touch podcast, The Bulwark podcast, Jim Acosta Substack and Don Lemon on YouTube.

TCampbell's avatar

Serves them right—voters who do not stop to understand what/who they are voting for deserve any negative fallout—big time—ignorance is no excuse—it was all written in Project 2025 and the tariffs were yapped about constantly

steve's avatar

They are all getting exactly what they voted for. All you can hope for is that they completely cut off Medicaid, food stamps and welfare for them when they have to sell their farms for pennies. They deserve it! They can eat and live in their red hats!

Judy Cross's avatar

They will probably have to take them down when they are forced to sell their farms.

steve's avatar

Unless they are printed in Russian or Chinese.

Warden Gulley's avatar

hah! that is revealing.

I would love to see Adam moving back to Illinois and succeed Dick Durbin as a conservative Democrat. I know it is a fantasy but we need the party to be as big tent as possible.

Shelley Riskin's avatar

I'm an Illinois resident, and I would DEFINITELY vote for you, Adam, now that Durbin is retiring!

Eric's avatar

No pressure but just your mere presence in the building would mess with Trumps mind .Let alone the other GOP would be crawling in their skin just saying. But you do you.

James Aldridge's avatar

Why not? Grab that bull by the horns and throw it...

Tai's avatar

The Democratic Party is probably too stupid to realize what kind of an asset you will be for them and the country. But I hope they roll out the red carpet.

Kathy Hecht's avatar

No we are not. We love Adam.

Diane1's avatar

The Democrats embrace Liz Cheney and Adam- he spoke at the DNC- a prime spot too! it's the magaRepubs that are stupid- they voted for trump and are ok with sinking into autocracy.

Carly Camacho's avatar

RED CARPET! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 get it? Pun intended 🥳

Sabrina Wood's avatar

Excuse me? Blue blue here and I think Adam rocks. In general, just for the record, we aren’t stupid. Ask yourself who voted that OT back in?

Tai's avatar

I am confident Adam will get Dem support in a general election. I just am not sure about the Democratic Party will give him a chance in the primary. Undoubtedly there are plenty of Illinois dems who are itching for the Durbin seat and be throwing fits if Adam gets into the race.

Paul Olmsted's avatar

Anna's avatar

Maryellen Simcoe's avatar

Joyce Richmond's avatar

This isn’t just a “Trump” problem, it’s a Republican Party problem because the majority have supported Project 2025 and all of Trump’s antics and illegal activities. So I sure hope that they also suffer the consequences of their action and inaction!

steve's avatar

They are more scared of TRump and Putin's Russian Mafia operating in this country than they are the American voter. That needs to change.

Susan Falzo's avatar

Trump & his cronies don’t care. They will always be ok. MAGA were followers that were used & are in denial

virginia arthur's avatar

We need a new party to replace the GOP. The GOP, if it survives at all, is not viable as a political party of any substance. The new party could be more of an Independent Party if the Democrats won’t enlarge their tent.

Diane1's avatar

The Democrats have a very large tent because they allow for differing opinions and ideas.

virginia arthur's avatar

However, many former Republicans are more driven by balancing the budget and paying off our loans to reduce the deficit. Therefore, they might not want to be members of the party they have always been told incurs debt because of too many “socially motivated” platforms. I am not saying that I feel that way, but many do. I think making the ultra rich pay their fair share will help us do both of those things.

Theresa McGinness's avatar

Hasn’t the debt always been higher with republicans at the helm?

Diane1's avatar

My point was that the Democrats do have a pretty large tent and they even embraced anti trump Republicans. I like the idea of a party of Independents- the best of both parties, or having mixed tickets, or the idea of having no parties and people vote for the person- But right now we have to vote for Democrats in Congress until maga is out because even the moderate Repubs in congress have shown they are not willing to stand up to trump. I agree that the rich should pay their fair share- we could pay off a lot of debt that way without cutting essential programs.

You know... this is where I struggle with me. I am generally a compassionate person. Fed hot sandwiches to neighbors after Helene as we were all sawing down trees blocking the road before anyone could get to us. Sent portable lamps and stoves in family-size packs to people living in campers. Never rich because the moment I have extra money I find somebody else to give it to. That kind of thing.

And yet.... I am having trouble feeling bad for these people. I know it's wrong. But I can't feel bad for them. I feel terrible about not feeling bad. But the information was there. A lot of people say they felt disenfranchized by the Democrats - but how many meetings and conferences did Kamala Harris have to hold, saying THIS VERY THING? That Trump's tariffs would know no party affiliation and hit EVERYONE hard, including rural America? Particularly rural America? She said it, posted it, talked about it everywhere. How much more included do you want to be? So... I don't know what to do with these people. It's sad that they are likely to lose their livelihood. But they really did bring it on themselves.

So they’re going to get what they themselves have chosen for others, and more deeply. What an absurdity.
