Didn’t they have elections during the Vietnam War, WW2 , Iraq War. Afghanistan war

Michelle Jordan's avatar

There is no excuse to cancel an election for any reason whatsoever.

Have a restful, happy and safe Memorial Day, Adam.

They had elections during the war of 1812 (British troops actually burned the Whitehouse down August 24, 1814) and in 1864 during the Civil War, (Lincoln beat General George McClellan who ran as a Democrat).

It would be a dreadful mistake for Trump and his administration to try and cancel midterms in November, it might well be the end of the Republican Party.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

It already ended. It’s now pure MAGA.

Pat Jones Garcia's avatar

If the Republican Party is considered to be MAGA-Trump-Project 2025, then we do not want or need it.

Diane1's avatar

it IS maga-trump-project2025. they have already accomplished 53% of their goals.

Michelle Jordan's avatar

We can only hope that whatever they have accomplished is not irreversible. I believe we must work with everything in us to try to rebuild everything good that has been destroyed.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

What we did not realize and should have is that they were playing the long game and it started a long time ago and now we must reverse it by never ever having an uncontested election. Even for dog catcher or whatever.

Mariellen's avatar

Yes and our prez wants to make us believe we didn’t. He’ll be yammering on about this A LOT before the election.

Diane1's avatar

he's an expert gaslighter

Kat Hudy's avatar

Absolutely they did. Ukraine is a different story since they are ones being bombarded daily.

Judy Steiner's avatar

Yes. Those wars were not on our soil.

Robot Bender's avatar

And WW I, I think.

Judith Ann Scott's avatar

Yes they did. And I don’t think Zelenskyy canceled elections either.

(Eleanor) Lorie Johnson's avatar

The only reason to cancel elections because of war is if that war was within our country.

Eva Seifert's avatar

People voted during the Civil War, and reelected Lincoln.

Really like these to-the-point news bullets.

Adam, thank you so much for your service. We appreciate everything that you have done for our country. May you have a wonderful memorial day weekend you deserve it.

we know they'll pull every trick + shenanigans not yet imagined to cancel, rig, steal, or overturn elections. BUT We The People have strength in numbers & Imho we must ALL do ALL we can keep it Free & Fair: convince non-voting/former-maga friends this one really matters! make sure everyone CHKS REGISTRATION monthly, acquires GOV ID asap, & DOESN'T TRUST USPS to deliver ballots! SIGN UP to be a POLL WORKER, ELECTION JUDGE, or NPO OBSERVER, OR: plan to take the DAY OFF to ad hoc show up to PROTECT VOTERS & BALLOTS. Bring a picnic & all your friends! PEACEFUL SIT-IN near your polls! #TooBigToRig #TooRealToSteal 🤞🌊🌊🗳️🇺🇸

Great idea about peaceful sit-ins very near polling stations. I'd suggest whistles along with the chicken salad.

I think colbert will be back. But I’ll miss him too.

Diane1's avatar

Colbert was my sanity feel good de-stress show before going to sleep since 2016.

LeftCoastReader's avatar

Thanks for the backstage perspective on Colbert. I have no doubt we’ll be hearing from him again.

Linda Woodard's avatar

Agree, and I'll have to add this to my list when talking about Adam and sharing his videos as I always preface them saying he knows personally how our military operates and how Congress does as well, and now, also how Late Night with Stephen Colbert operated.

You want to know what Trump is going to do to keep power? EVERYTHING!! Everything he can, he will try every angle at his leverage and even those angles outside his scope to try and stay in power. He’s already shown it. Why do we keep acting like we don’t know? Expect it!

"A source familiar with the matter tells the outlet that Gabbard was actually forced out by the White House due to her difference over the Iran War."

Newsflash -- Trump didn't choose Gabbard for her brains, competence, or expertise to begin with. She spent her tenure pursuing alien sex tales, whackjob political conspiracies, and poking her baseball cap around the curtains at Fulton County election headquarters in search of those missing 11,570 ballots which never existed to begin with.

What is wrong with "we, the people" that we still tolerate:

- blatant corruption (slush fund, pardoning criminals who benefit him, etc.),,

- constant attempts to steal elections,

- an illegal and stupidly conducted war (more to come?),

- creating generational damage to our friends

and alliances (essentially aiding Putin),

- complicity in the needless deaths of thousands due to

things like canceling USAID and health insurance

for those who can't afford basic health care as

well as lies and misinformation during COVID

and enabling MAGA's ultra-selfishness,

- his treatment of women, bragging about it, and,

based on the House committee hearing with

Kash Patel, the DOJ cover-up of damning

evidence that makes it seem very likely that

Trump participated in Epstein's activities.

Equally bad is putting up with a legislative and judiciary branch that enables his behavior that has put us in decline.

We need a complete overhaul of the national government, clearing out the current garbage, and finding a way to vote in men and women (Republican, Democrat, Independent,...) who have honor, courage, and integrity and who place country over fealty to parties and demagogues.

Trump only has power due to people who are cowering, ignorant, foolish, and opportunistic. Courage can help dissolve that base and he will be shown to be the pathetic person that he has always been. Give the man the prison jumpsuit that he more than deserves.

Al Draycott's avatar

Thanks Adam: I don't think the USA cancelled any elections during WW1 , WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Colbert will resurface somewhere. Boycott CBS and all their advertisers. MS-NOW could be a great landing spot for a comedian.

JOELLEN's avatar

Yes, I heard he was going in with Rachel Madden and someone else to create a new news network. They have all had it had it with the major networks cow-towing to Trump et al .

Klara Szasz's avatar

Thank you Adam, you enjoy the Memorial Day weekend as well!

Altamama2's avatar

Great post - thanks for keeping up with everything!

As usual, reliable reports from you, Adam.

Best line of the day - - The First Amendment is bigger than just protection from the government locking you up for what you say. It is the broader idea that the people in power do not get to decide who is allowed to criticize them. - - - thanks so much Adam! Spot on as always. Have a wonderful Memorial Day!!

Diane1's avatar

wow! I just posted the same quote!! jinx! lol

Have a nice Memorial Holiday with your family.

Regarding Trump threatening to run for a third term, the more likely scenarios in the next two years are: 1. He dies or becomes incapacitated. 2. He is impeached and convicted should the Dems take both Houses in the midterms. 3. He goes more completely off the rails and his cabinet is forced to invoke the 25th amendment.

We can only hope…
