How do we repair this court??

Michelle Jordan's avatar

I believe that is one of the most important questions of our times.

Louise Purfield-Coak's avatar

That is a timely question. According to my Democratic Legislators, Debbie Dingell and Elissa Slotkin plus Retiring Gary Peters, the answer is winning the Senate, so that Trump can't appoint more, then, in 2028 holding the Senate, winning the White House and expanding the number of justices on the Supreme Court!

Michelle Jordan's avatar

That's a good plan, but it's temporary in nature since power swings back and forth over time. How do we prevent the Supreme Court of the future to align along party lines when its Justices are supposed to be above politics?

Louise Purfield-Coak's avatar

Instituting by law a judicial code of conduct on SCOTUS. Mandatory retirement age, possibly term limits. That are some of the suggestions I am hearing Dems are considering.

Terri's avatar

Absolutely term limits for anyone in the judiciary. And maybe EVEN Congress!

Michelle Jordan's avatar

Ending Presidential appointment and forcing Justices to be elected for limited terms and then running again, with a maximum of a certain amount of terms allowed, sounds good to me. Also, I think that since the population has grown significantly since the number of Justices was set, having the number of Justices linked to the number of population in some reasonable way might result in more equality of representation.

How do we repair the government? The DNC still thinks this is a time of Right vs Left when it is actually Right vs Wrong. They don't realize that self-dealing evil men control our government now. They still think the GOP is operating in "good faith". While Lindsey Graham admits that Trump is God in the GOP and the Republican Party is now the Trump Party.

John Milton and CS Lewis and Dante Alighieri described the battle of good vs evil in their stories. With their own interpretations of good winning against bad. We can learn from them.

Will the American Spirit be strong enough to remove the criminals from our government? Hold them to account and claw back their illegal gains? The numbers are on our side. 80% to 20%.

The members of the Supreme Court who voted to end TPS protections for Haitians, along with Trump, are now complicit in mass murder. It's shameful and reflects horribly on our country. And allowing Monsanto to get away with the chemicals in Roundup when the science is clear is not far behind in being complicit in misery and death.

Wake up call…. How much louder can it be? Every day/hour we get wake up calls. Citizens sleep while more interested in tic toc and influencers pouty lips than history, constitution and laws. JDV dismissive opine about Nixon is another example of lawless governance. Wake up USA, stand for truth. The Supreme Court ideology is dumbfounding as exampled again in ruling to send people to places our country warns against. Befuddled in WA state am I.

Terri's avatar

Totally agree! Fundamentally, how do we engage more people to care and then to VOTE! I’ve just heard only 7% of voters in NYC voted in these primaries and all I hear this morning is DEM-SOCIALISTS.

Miller and Vance confirm that the Trump Administration is following the Mafia Mob Boss model. Stephen MIller is Consigliore. Blanche is the Fixer - Enforcer. Patel is the mob boss loyal Police Chief. Bissent is the banker who lets Blanche and Trump into the public money vaults at night. Hegseth is the Gun Muscle. Mike Johnson is the corrupt Mayor who directs passing the Trump Family friendly laws at City Hall. Six of the Supreme Court justices are the judges in Trump's pocket. The ICE Police are the voter suppression squad. Vance is the gang's mouthpiece to the Press to distract and demonize the Deep State (meaning the honest cops and good guys).

This is all so transparent. The Trump Family is using the Office of President to stuff OUR money in their pockets. They are lousy at government management but they are great at stealing!

Why aren't the Dems shouting the truth from the rooftops?

It's Come To This's avatar

I can never figure out comments like these. They ARE shouting. You're not listening. They're in the minority -- they don't have control over the legislative agenda. Isn't that obvious? When they vote, it's practically unanimous.

Democrats have been outperforming by 20+ points in every single by-election snd vacancy in the last year. Democrats outvoted Republicans in Texas in May by 160,000 votes. I can't even think when that happened last. Pete Buttigieg is traveling to one red state after another breaking off independents snd disaffected Republicans from MAGA. 25 Democratic state Attorneys General have been filing lawsuits, one after another, and winning.

What planet have you been on?

DeBurgh's avatar

Sorry for the comment "shouting from the rooftops". The better communication method is to speak clearly and tell the truth. My frustration is the lack of candor in the DNC messaging. Few Dem leaders are explicitly calling out the Trump Family criminal behavior. Jon Ossoff recently stated quite clearly how corrupt and unfit his opponent was. James Talarico has done the same. Gavin Newsom is pulling few punches when he tells the truth to reporters about Trump. Most of the rest of the Dem leaders are pulling their punches. Weasel messaging. (The recent $1.7 Billion slush fund scandal missed the "magic settlement fraud" crime story. Blanche and Trump finessed the theft by diverting the Dems attention to the "rioter fund" outrage. 23 attorneys general and 35 retired judges, led by Judge Luttig are now going after the crime. The DNC hasn't caught up yet.)

MAGA owns 20% to 25% of the adult population. The Democratic Party has a solid 30%, except when Musk and others use deception to convince some Dems to not vote. Like Nov 2024. 10% are independents who must be told: "You can't vote for Trump or any MAGA who supports him because he is stealing from you". 30% to 35% don't vote.

Unless the DNC takes the gloves off and attacks Trump's criminal activity, he will use every trick to stop the few % of Dems and Independents from voting. He is rigging this election. Just like he and Musk did in Nov 2024.

We can never go back to believing SCOTUS is standing up for American citizens. The 6 conservative judges work for one person - The Felon. If the Dems take both houses in the 2026 elections, there are two things I hope they do IMMEDIATELY - 1) Remove every sign, picture, statue, emblem, wall mounting that has anything to do with resembling The Felon - get that POS out of our sight. 2) Stop the demolition of the White House and restore it back to its original structure. 3) Nominate and seat 5 - 6 LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVE Supreme Court Judges.

As a sign note - and not that this is important, but WOW - Cruz is looking bad. Needs to cut down on the "green eggs and ham," and maybe take a power walk every day.

Michelle Jordan's avatar

And also get rid of that horrible plaid jacket that makes him look like a clown. But then, I guess he is something of a clown. Once upon a time he had the chance to use the brains he was born with, but he has gone a long way downhill since then. I can remember him saying that he would never support Trump or anyone else who dissed his family, and look at him now. Pitiful.

😅Cruz. Such a scumbag. I will never forget when he fled to warmth when the grid collapsed in his state during winter. Great guy.

Thanks Adam: Great up-dates. Yes the six seditionist justices of the Supreme Court seems to allow a mild ethnic cleansing to go on. After the Haitians who is next. This whole cleansing is attributed to SS Stephen Miller a true blue White Supremacist. Please folks don't let the despots ware you out , take five and get back in the fray. This fight is not over until it is over. vote like your life counts on it. Vote Blue all the way. Pay no heed to the trash talk coming from the radical right. Stay focused on the prize "Democracy"

you just reminded me of the poem from world war 2 that goes through all the people the nazi regime came for until they come for the poet, and there is no one left to help him.

'This is “a victory 10 years in the making', said the sourpuss, unlovable, odious. Steven Miller, White House chief of staff after the reactionary Roberts Supreme Court ruled that the Trump n a a 6/3 decision.

The Supreme Court up to its usual tricks, this time enabled the Trump regime to deport Haitian and Syrian refugees into deadly war zones by the hundreds of thousands, restricting Americans’ ability to sue chemical companies over being poisoned, and striking down yet another sensible gun control policy in Hawaii. 'We couldn’t ask for a better demonstration of why government should be accountable to the people, instead of unelected clerics can pick their own successors'.

Steven Miller's wife Katie cynically bolstered t he president's utter distaste of Haitians by saying the dogs and cats need protection, alluding to JD Vance's assertion that Haitians feast on Refugee Act and the turning back of the 'St. Louis'

with Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany. The ship returned to Hamburg, the passengers, many of whom perished in the Holocaust.

Katherine Ann Porter dramatised the incident in her best seller 'Voyage of the Damned' that Hollywood turned into a blockbuster. See less

it's a sin what has happened to our country. we need to get him and his buddies out so we can rebuild our country back into something we can be proud of.

My goodness, what a mess! They are going after the handicapped. Check out Bloomberg Law News. It seems that Steve Miller is pushing the DOJ to dismantle protections for Americans with disabilities. I taught handicapped children for many years. It's time for a major push back on this hate- filled troll.

naejsllim's avatar

Dismantling protections is only a small fraction of their plan. They want to institutionalize the disabled.

IMO, all the warehouses they've been buying up aren't just for immigrants.

The TSP decision shows the complete lack of human decency in bothe the Roberts Majority and this regime.

Sally S's avatar

Is sad about the temporary status decision. I agree with deporting criminals but guaranteed 75 percent are law abiding. Let’s return some others we know in Washington!!!! And Vance, I don’t have the words right now. 😝

Cindy Marshall's avatar

Please Adam, tell me you see a way to keep the hard working Haitian and Syrian people here?!!🙏🏻

Kim Donaldson's avatar

As an immigrant myself, I was shocked by the memorandum issued in June 2025 by the DOJ, which outlines new enforcement priorities for its Civil Division. One priority of note: the emphasis on denaturalization. There is a catch-all clause in the document that states they can act on 'any other cases referred to the Civil Division that the Division determines to be sufficiently important to pursue.' So if they find you 'undesirable' for any reason, they can 1) denaturalize you, 2) deport you to any country of their choosing, and 3) basically make you a stateless person without any rights; ergo, I am heading back to Canada as soon as I can get there.
