PLEASE PLEASE consider running as at least an independent for SENATOR now that Dick is retiring. Senator for next 4 years then run for President like Obama. Adam you will be the first conservative independent President from Illinois. PLEASE consider it. I know we all will do what we can to help you.

Woodland's avatar

I agree - but don’t run as a Republican - I will never vote for a Republican again!!

Sarah Ralston's avatar

We need people like him in the Republican group!

Woodland's avatar

Nope - I’m done with Republicans. Look at the cabinet they ALL voted in favor of (except for a very small number). And the SCOTUS. And their plans to chop up Medicaid and VA benefits. Maybe if they earn our trust again - we can reconsider after a few election cycles.

Great post! Already doing all you suggested!! Except I do still use my apple iPhone 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's hard to get away from ALL of the corporations totally. I've done a pretty fair job, some, like Hobby Lobby and Target I never shop at to begin with. MY dirty confession is PayPal. It's just so darn easy and I donate to a couple of people over seas, a lady in Ukraine and a lady from Tennessee who has been in Kabul for a long time running a small animal rescue. Paypal makes those donations so very easy. So you are not alone. I too have "sinned".

Great list and respect on your service in Nam. I fortunately missed that unhappy event pulling a high number in the 72 lottery. Knew a lot of folks that served and for whatever reason a number trusted me to be their sounding board when they needed to "talk it out." Heard more than a few crazy stories. Side note I see you were in the service for six years. Pilot by chance?

John/ Bring It On 🤠🌵🪖's avatar

Thanks for the nice comments. No Pilot, just a 18 yr old Radioman in the Navy in-country 1970-1971.

I do what I can, but I have to order from Amazon, order groceries from Walmart, use my Apple iPhone, and use Facebook because all of my friends are on Facebook. I have cut back my orders to both Amazon and Walmart. I live in a small rural area and I no longer drive.

It's all understandable, you do the best you can! 😊👍

But personally - I am done with Republicans.

Diana Talbott's avatar

Republicans have truly hated Democrats for as long as I can remember (70's) Not all of them but enough to spread it thick and stinky. MAGA and those who bend the knee will never have any respect from me.

virginia arthur's avatar

No. The Republican Party is too corrupted. It will never be strong again. There will be too many horrible memories. I can never be a Republican again nor would I ever vote Republican again even though I did so for 45 years before trump in 2016. NEVER AGAIN!

I Resist's avatar

When the trust is gone you have to move on in any and every aspect of your life. I deeply respect for doing that,Virginia!🧡

virginia arthur's avatar

Thank you, Bob. I appreciate that.

Maria K.'s avatar

I don't know.... do you really think Republican party is salvageable at this point? I think there is just too much bad blood. Once upon a time, I used to vote mixed ballot. And then.... sometime around 2012, Republicans started losing their minds. So... not anymore.

Cindy La Ferle's avatar

The party of Trump is a whole different animal. A monster animal.

Mike Shafer's avatar

Agree with your point however they chose to "go over the cliff" with the Mango Mussolini so they own it.

I Resist's avatar

Adam, best talk you have ever given-from the ❤️ and I agree 300 percent. Lincoln is my favorite President because of his honesty, fortitude and perseverance. I don’t believe the Republican party can resurrect itself because it has become the party of Trump and MAGA. We need a need party and new leadership and I know it’s out there and the time is getting near. It’s what we, the striving, honest people need to replace the grifters and return the moral compass to government. I am becoming old, but my heart and mind are young and I will NEVER GIVE UP! I will NEVER GIVE IN until these tyrants are out!

I disagree. The good ones are just now getting a spine, like Kinsinger. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater like the Magats (NOT GOP IMHO) do!

They go low. We need to stay at least civil!

Julie's avatar

Today there are no Republicans and Democrats left. There are only Fascists and Constitutionalists. I believe that is why so many hard core traditional republicans felt comfortable endorsing Kamala Harris. Its because we now play on the same team. And shockingly many hard core Democrat unionists now play for the fascists. Its weird but there are new party divisions and we are all scattering to new corners.

virginia arthur's avatar

I have a feeling that union members are regretting voting for trump. If they aren’t, they will be before long, just like the farmers.

I Resist's avatar

Times of deep change often lead to new alignments, some good, some bad, some dangerous! It’s the lack of moral compass, civility, and the extreme materialism and superficiality that bother me so right now!

Jason Merchey's avatar

fascists and constitutionalists... that's pretty good

Jessica L's avatar

HERE HERE!! I totally second that! ABSOLUTELY ADAM KINZINGER NEEDS TO RUN FOR SENATE SEAT!! Regardless of what party.

If he can convince Liz Cheney to do the same that would be awesome too. Although I'm a die hard liberal boomer democrat, it would be incredible if independent Republicans....dare I say "progressive" Republicans stand up to the current Trumpian Republicans and make a lasting change. Adam.....PLEASE CONSIDER RUNNING...FOR ANY OFFICE....but Senate would be the best! YES!!!

Lillian Burke's avatar

Even run as a Democrat. The problem with running as a Republican is that there is a core of Republican voters who love DT. I personally can't even watch Netflix if there is a liar in it and the constant lying and exaggeration drives me nuts. That said, I'm not a Republican primary voter. Trump retaliates against anyone who opposes him and one is powerless against Trump and the Republican primary voters.

I Resist's avatar

I have 4 thoughts: 1) Never Give In! 2)Never Give Up! 3) We desperately need a new Party that fits the majority of Americans - Freedom and Responsibility Party - moderate Dems, former Republicans and Independents who want to solve the country's problems realistically! I would join in a minute. 4) My new free substack post at (bobswandby.substack.com) is out, "WHEN IT ARRIVES, SEND YOUR THANK YOU TO 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVE NW, ATTN: PRESIDENT TRUMP" The ingredients are stirred, poured and in the oven - THE RECESSION IS BAKING

Mike Shafer's avatar

I agree this time around. All the economists were calling for a recession back in early 2023 and I threw the BS flag and kept my IRA and my wife's about 75-80% invested. I started moving to cash in mid-Feb and have our total at about 75% presently. It's going to take a while for the real deep damage Trump has done with his gyrations to really affect the businesses and then reflect in the investment markets but I have little doubt the chickens will come home to roost within six months to a year. I would love to be wrong but having a good bit of background in this area I'm standing pat on this hand.

Peggy M's avatar

Exactly. The moderates have nowhere to go. I would join an Independent party. Voting for the candidate and their message not just party affiliation.

WayneNW's avatar

Phil, there are residency requirements in order to run for office in any state. Since Adam is currently living in Texas, he'd have to immediately move to Illinois or whatever state he'd want to run for office in (I don't think the Texans would care for an out of stater running for an elected office who's only lived there for a short period). His home state of Ohio is probably the easiest one he could go to providing he maintains a residency there. Considering the death threats he and his family got that forced him to move, I don't think he'd want to go back any time soon.

Lois W. Halbert's avatar

But don't run as a Republican. After January 6th I will not vote for another Republican. But you would make a great President.

Alison Matthew's avatar

I agree that should Adam decide to run for anything, he should not run as a Republican, because he would not survive the primary. Trump and his goons, including the top goon, Musk, will spend and do whatever it takes to destroy Adam’s candidacy.

Jason Merchey's avatar

Yes, whenever someone wants to argue with me and they are STILL Republicans, I first ask "What do you think of January 6th?" If they say anything but "That was a friggin embarrassment--those fools should have been in jail for decades and Trump is a treasonous ba#tard for inciting that insurrection!" I won't engage. The first thing you have to admit as a current conservative is that Trump let the Right off a cliff like lemmings, and it was the third worst thing ever to occur internally in this country's long history (slavery and the confederacy engaging in treason/war being #1 and #2). If you can't admit this undeniable fact, I won't waste my time.

Jetsetpoodle's avatar

I agree also. I will vote for you.

Mary Jo Wenckus's avatar

If only we could get campaign finance reform enacted. Shorter election cycles and some kind of limits on spending.

Mike Shafer's avatar

A good start would be the turning over of the "Citizens United" ruling but given the conservative entities that are pulling the strings behind the scenes and more importantly seem to be good with playing the long game that would be quite a challenge.

virginia arthur's avatar

But worth it. Outlawing gerrymandering is a must as well.

virginia arthur's avatar

Ending Citizens United is a MUST!

Lori D's avatar

I actually came here to say this as well. I hope you will run for senate. My husband and I were talking about this last night. You’re the only republican we respect. I think the democrats and true republicans are the only way to save this country and rid the US of MAGA.

Jason Merchey's avatar

Yes we all have a role--liberals, centrists and swing voters, and conservatives who don't buy into Trumpism. Different roles, but each oh so important. I know we can't rout the authoritarians and cult followers who have forsaken the spirit of America if only one of those groups does the work and fights smart, and I don't even think good can prevail over evil if even ONE of those three groups shirks responsibility and doesn't "hold the line" as Kinzinger put it. We can outnumber the seditious conspirators and the selfish fools by a margin of 7 to 3 if we all stand up and reject fascism and hate and corruption.

Paul Olmsted's avatar

This message gives me hope - maybe hope can restore some confidence. Confidence that we will get through this.

My training in Econ tells me that when confidence ebbs- banks fail .

Although we have deposit insurance, and unemployment compensation for laid off workers,

most of us have not lived and survived severe recessionary periods. We need strong leadership

to guide us through - - but the current administration only has a limited agenda which is not going to be beneficial to most of us . Let’s hope AK regains a high position in the government to keep our heads up because without confidence we have nothing- nothing at all .

Lilli Gross's avatar

Or run not as Democrat OR Republican! Join Zelenskyy’s party, “Servant Of The People”. You BE that leader we need who serves we the people and not cororate America or the wealthy. THIS is what America needs now. Put an end to Citizen’s United. Look into the illegal 2024 election. Bring backs checks and balances. The rule of law for EVERYONE!

Kristie's avatar

Adam, please seriously consider this. I live in Indiana but will support your senate run in Illinois anyway I can. And then on to the presidency. You will have my vote no matter which ticket you run on. I'm a registered republican who is totally disgusted with the right wing of the republican party. Your conservative values and love for this country is what this nation needs. Help us to heal and become again what we once were. God bless you and your family.

I feel as though Trump is purposely weaken us for a takeover by Russia. He is punishing all of us for electing Biden in 2020.

May Lee's avatar

Yes, forget annexing Canada as the 51st state - we should all be more worried about the USA becoming a Russian colony.

Maria K.'s avatar

The plan to demand back Alaska has been discussed by Russian Duma (their version of the parliament) as recently as January 2025. Sergei Mironov, a member of the Russian State Duma and leader of the "A Just Russia — For Truth" party, proposed in January 2025 to use frozen Russian assets abroad as leverage to potentially revisit the historical sale of Alaska to the United States.

Mironov argued that Russia sold Alaska for $7.2 million in 1867, which would be equivalent to around $16.2 billion today. He suggested that since an estimated $320 billion in Russian assets are frozen abroad, the US could keep $16.2 billion in exchange for Alaska's return to Russia.

This proposal was made during a session of the State Duma and reported by Russian media. https://united24media.com/latest-news/russian-mp-calls-for-alaskas-return-amid-frozen-asset-dispute-5095#:~:text=Latest%20news-,Russian%20MP%20Calls%20for%20Alaska%27s%20Return%20Amid%20Frozen%20Asset%20Dispute,of%20it%2C%E2%80%9D%20Mironov%20stated.

Mike Shafer's avatar

How about we keep Alaska and they can take a hike. :)

Maria K.'s avatar

They are talking about building a tunnel under the Bering Straight. To have direct access. People don't understand this - when the straight freezes over, it is possible to walk from Russia to America across the ice. It's a thing. That's how tribes migrated and traded between North America and Eurasia.

Mike Shafer's avatar

Not worried. The Russian Army has been trying to conquer their neighbor Ukraine for over three years and have hardly made a dent. Good luck trying to pull that off here. Frankly I think even the "Red Hats" would be "comrades in arms" if that happened.

JF's avatar

Annexing Canada is part of the Pro-Russia scheme. I read a Canadian comment that the plan is for Russia to rule over northern Canada, while Trump gets southern Canada, and yippee! we get to share a boundary with Russia.

I'm not tired, AT ALL. I'm invigorated by the growing number of people who are coming out to protest, many for the first time, against efforts to destroy our country and the global order. I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT.

We held a protest march in Stamford, CT on 4/5 with over 4000 people in attendance. We have another planned for 5/3. I am unwilling to cede my country to the likes of Trump, MAGA, and Doge. LFG.

Joan Bailey's avatar

Ditto Susan. Each time my husband and I marched, we came away with the feeling of community and being a part of something bigger than ourselves. It was energizing being around others who are like minded.

WE gonna win this one. Trump's approval rating is sinking substantially. That is nothing to what will happen to it when his inane tariff policies and trade wars start to suck money our of our wallets and bank accounts. I think that the mid terms will be a flat out didadter for Trump, and for a lot of Republican congress people. unless of course they abandon him and turn against his policies. YUP, WE LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES, as goes the old Chinese curse.

My fear too. It’s becoming fairly obvious that they are attacking fair elections. There’s no way they will give up power without a fight . . . Maybe actually violence.

It’s so easy for those outside the maelstrom of Congress to tell somebody else to “Run for Office”. I have the highest respect for both Kissinger and L. But I really think that they are more effective as outsiders than to return to a congress that has been a monetized Country Club for the rich and the Wanna-bees.

It's Come To This's avatar

No one can predict the future. Like many, I have a sense things will get worse before they improve, but who knows? Others optimistically speak of a breaking point already here in this regime of idiocy, cruelty and incompetence. Rather than predict, all I can do is express is my own study of how past and present authoritarian regimes interact with their own societies.

What counts far more than we realize is our refusal to cooperate with them. They seek our acquiescence. They want us to use their tainted language. They insist we accept as truth their upside-down experience of the world and behave accordingly. All authoritarian states seek this from their own people. They demand we think like they do, then do their dirty work for them. They do this partly out of sheer laziness, partly because it makes controlling us that much easier.

It is up to us to decide how to respond. It always has been. It always will be. It is important we do not forget this.

Lucille Sanchez-corea's avatar

Not only their tainted language but they have hijacked our flag‼️I suggest we all carry flags at our peaceful protests … not upside down but old glory streaming.

The other hijackedbitem is the cross around the necks of these Antichrist extremists 🤮

It's Come To This's avatar

Reminds me of the moment in Zeffirelli's "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" about the life of St. Francis. Granted an audience with the Pope, Francis approaches the throne with awe and reverence, wearing only sackcloth, while the cardinals around the Pope carry ginormous crucifixes around their necks, glaring at him with disgust. Francis cannot help himself, but starts to preach the Gospel at them, filling them with outrage. Sort of like the moment Bishop Marianne Budde asked Trump to have mercy "on those who are scared right now" at National Cathedral, as the entire Trump clan looked like it was about to vomit.

Katina's avatar

I agree.

There were very few American flags at the two protests I attended. So I dug out the flag I made right after 9/11, when the stores were all sold out of American flags. I sewed it out of leftover quilting fabrics.

On May 1, I will carry it proudly to the protest in my town’s common, along with my sign. Let’s not cede the flag to MAGA.

Mike Shafer's avatar
