I have mixed feelings about how much to invest, both money and effort, into candidates for 2026, considering my deep suspicion that this election either won’t happen or won’t be close to fair. Well, but let's take that a little further. Impeachment is merely indictment; he was impeached twice in his first term but didn't go anywhere. He needs to be impeached and then convicted, so he can be removed. We're seeing now that the depths to which he will sink are bottomless. Nothing, absolutely nothing is too low for him. Given the moral calibre of the current Republican majority in the Senate, however, I wonder if conviction would be possible.
It's not. Conviction requires two-thirds of the Senate, 67 votes. We would need to gain 20 votes somehow. Short of his attempting (another) coup, I can't see more than a couple of Republicans backing it, and we aren't going to gain 15 seats anytime soon.
First we take back the House in '26, then the White House in '28. If we do really well in '26, we might be able to edge ahead in the Senate.

Optimism is elusive but I think it’s possible. I’m looking for candidates that have a chance of winning in mid-terms and those who also would be good choices for ‘28. It doesn’t matter the party. We need to find candidates w/empathy. We want to combat this autocracy we find ourselves in now.
