Last night's SOTU was nothing more than red meat for the MAGA crowd. Nothing we haven't heard before. Spanberger's response to your point was substantive and right on point. The rest was more of Trump's theatrics. Honestly, all of his speeches look and sound like a re-run of a bad movie.

The red meat has been diluted down to pink meat, unappetizing to even President Loser’s base

Spam. Any lower quality and it wouldn't even be meat.

Thank you, Adam , for your take on last night . We didn’t expect him to lower the temp or speak to the truth. Therefore, we were not disappointed! His finger pointing and embellished ‘facts’ are getting very tired. If folks want to believe the stuff he says there is not much that will change those minds. If they believe that if you are against his policies you are not real Americans is unbelievably wrong. What would Abe say if he were here? Maybe he’d repeat that “ a country divided against its self can not stand.???” I pray it doesn’t come to that. I thought that the Governors response was straight forward . Let’s hope that some heard. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Adam . I KNOW we are right.

Performative art at its highest. What got me laughing was watching the crowd bob up and down applauding at every other sentence spoken by Trump. And really the best was watching Vance and Johnson sitting in those big boy chairs behind him!

Yes, it was a showman putting on a show, which his MAGAites loved, his snarky comments, laugh lines at other's expense, providing props to celebrate, and championing of cruelty and bigotry are, indeed, red meat for the base. They came away still adoring the felon in office and will continue to do so. It's the counter to that which we must ensure.

It was Razzle Dazzle: "Give 'em the old razzle dazzle,

Razzle dazzle 'em.

Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it

And the reaction will be passionate.

Give 'em the old hocus pocus,

Bead and feather 'em.

How can they see with sequins in their eyes?

What if your hinges all are rusting?

What if, in fact, you're just disgusting?

Razzle dazzle 'em,

And they'll never catch wise!"

I purposely chose not to waste my time listening to Trump's lies and vitriol. Instead I went back and forth on live streams of alternative events from Resistance.org and Meidas+/MoveOn.org. This morning I read NPR's fact check and read the Dems. response by Virginia Gov. Spanberger. That was enough for me.

I watched Hallmark Mysteries and Meidas Touch/Move On livestream in DC with the Democrats who boycotted. Later, when I was sure the propaganda was over, I watched Spamberger give her rebuttal.

While I'm taking nothing for granted, I sincerely hope the 'blue wave' is more of a 'blue tsunami' and we take complete control of Congress to start righting this ship.

Thanks, Adam. I saw only the first few minutes of a true North Korean-style shitshow -- a preening, primping, rancid, smirking emperor strutting before fawning, obsequious, terrified assholes standing and applauding for far too long, frightened of being the first to sit down -- I immediately clicked off.

A fascist spectacle unworthy of the United States of America. The only thing missing were rose petals strewn before his path by Republican Housetoads all begging to kiss his far-too-long red tie.

I was thinking they were begging to kiss his fat, ugly, smelly, wrinkly ass.

....and tell him it smells just like peaches and cream....

And they would believe it! 🤪

Thank you for this brief overview. I say brief, because you got it right that the speech was light on substance, if there was any at all. The only highlight was the honoring of the 100 year old Veteran. I appreciate you being here for us.

It was unsettling to watch the SOTU. It reminded me of my early career as a hospitalist on a psychiatric unit, listening to the spurious delusions of a patient and his dangerous influence on the rest of the patient population.

With "HIM" everything is "spectacle" nothing more or less. HE won't read prepared speeches (but he should because they would be shorter for sure). I didn't watch because I would NOT have been able to last the 1 hour and 48 minutes. Heck I wouldn't last 5 seconds. But your review is about what I expected!

Its like a parody. Not a good one. Glad to have missed the lies and cruelty.

I look at it like it's a Soap Opera; It's got all the dynamics. Drama, Irony, lost love, anger and bad decision making! Made for TV reality show.

I couldn't bring myself to watch it! I literally cannot look at him or listen to his voice. With that being said, I saw a still frame from last night and, I think the worse part was JD Vance's smug face and Mike Johnson's Creepy McCreepster vibes. Plus, come on U.S. Men's Hockey...so proud of the five players that didn't attend.

SCS's avatar

I agree ... how come the GOP cannot pick up on the Johnson creep factor. There is something off with that fellow. He exudes a vibe that, at this point, I am hesitant to say, but I am sure others have already picked up.

Kitty Rowell's avatar

After suffering through about a half hour of his speech (couched in the Vance/Johnson smirking contest) I stopped it. I wish it were October now - near the midterms.

Adam Kinzinger's avatar

Johnson’s face was weird

It's Come To This's avatar

In Britain, Johnson would be referred to as a “grotty little man.”

Agree that more from the citation for Medal of Honor would be helpful. From first read, the heli pilot deserved at a minimum the Purple Heart, but we need to hear more. Sounded a bit like a made to support his kidnapping movie.

Also, send Trump back to 5th grade. You can’t reduce prices by more than 100 percent (“300, 400, 500 percent”) else the drug companies pay you.

The lack of knowledge in this college graduate is beyond belief. Meanwhile, Abraham Lincoln was entirely self-educated. Comparisons, anyone?

Thank you for your explanation. I intentionally didn’t waste my time knowing it was only going to be bull crap!!💩 He knows nothing of military service or anything else for that matter.

Oh and one more thing - Spanberger was excellent !

Adam

Thank you for watching

We attended our Hs granddaughter’s band concert

She surprised us with her first solo!

She plays the clarinet.

Way better than listening to the orange piggy pedo felon

Of course if not for the lovely band concert, I would have spent my time wisely in watching paint dry.

Cindy La Ferle's avatar

He's such a wind bag, an obnoxious, odious fart. So glad I didn't listen to him -- and thank you for the recap.

Bill Corbett's avatar

Pure spectacle is all it was and a Trump Epstein rally.

Jennifer Lebsack's avatar

Thank you for the post. Democrats and Independents (like me) should focus on the midterms and maybe just don’t react to Trump -he loves a public showdown . Ignore his theatrics and focus on engaging voters.

P.S. has anyone else seen today’s Borowitz report with the rump-T BBC video? We should make sure all elected officials see it as well.

I’ll check it out, thank you
