Despite the religious rhetoric - which only makes it clear that Vance is completely unfamiliar with the teachings of Jesus - Vance’s words and actions make it clear that he lacks a moral compass. Your image of a snarling, vicious dog is perfect.
Have you seen the recent cozy picture of Erika Kirk and Vance, his hand on her waist in one, her hands on his head in another? At first I thought it was "just" attraction on his face...then I realized, what a fool I am...he's found his queen to help him inherit the MAGA movement once Trump has succumbed to death or dementia (whichever one is first), his marriage a minor detail. I would bet a lot of money that he leaves his wife, who, as an Indian-American is dead weight in the midst of this MAGA anti-immigrant America we're all living through.
He uses people. That's been his MO his entire life. I keep on coming back to that scene in "Hillbilly Elegy" where he calls Usha and frantically asks her which fork to use at that fancy Yale dinner. He may have loved her, he may still love her, but it can't be denied that she helped him enter a more international, sophisticated world when that sort of thing mattered in America. Now, he's hitched his wagon and then some to MAGA "Christian" Nationalism.
He's INCAPABLE of love - he used Usha to become more sophisticated (cutlery included) and now he's done with her - you're absolutely right that she is a drag on his image now.
Are they important to him? The way he speaks about Usha, I don’t think she is. To be blunt, she would be if she were Christian, blonde and blue-eyed in his MAGA pursuits.
Exactly, this man cares ZERO for his family except as props. When you hear him refer to the kids as "her children" you know he's ashamed to own a brown face in his own family. Usha's body language during the infamous "hug" was very very telling. Junior Dick will back pedal and change his "views" as soon as the wind changes. Unfortunately for him, grumpf never stays on one path for more than 5 seconds, so jd is like a weathervane whirling in circles.
I cannot believe what these eyes see and what I hear. I just don't understand how others can swallow the crap they hear and see from this Administration
l also have people in my family who watch the Fox (definitely in the hen house), and they don't hear 1/2 of what's happening. They hear that we're being overrun by illegals and DJT, Noem, and others are working hard to rescue us from the horrors that Biden unleashed, even welcomed to our shores! It's all they know, all they hear, all the believe.
Don't forget that the GOP has become neofascist, and that its Fox Entertainment propaganda machine has created a fake news bubble for its voters for more than two decades already now.
Or as Kamala Harris says: GOP voters don't share the same facts. They have been taught to hate everything that has the word "Democratic" attached to it (all based on horrible lies) and will soon be taught to hate democracy itself. Vance already tries to claim that fascism/dictatorships are the pinnacle of democracy, because now "the president you voted for" can do 100% whatever he wants, rather than having to deal with Congress...
Vance's superpower is one of malevolent shape-shifting. He simply becomes whatever persona du jour is necessary at the moment for the latest power and $$$ grab. It's what sociopaths do. Would the real JD Vance please rise? Guessing it's the white Christian nationalist neo-fascist dude. Sorry, Usha.
But I wonder if we're letting him off easy by considering him a sociopath. You could make an argument that, as a sociopath, he's suffering from a clinical disorder. I honestly think that he wanted power and position, and, as I said in my own comment, he made a cold, hard decision to sell his soul in order to achieve them. Vance chose to be evil, and chose to spit in the face of his own religion. I tremble for his three children, with a parental role model like that.
I think it is a mistake to believe the sociopath is a victim of a disease, and or somehow not responsible for their actions. It is simply a total lack of concern for what is right and good. The sociopath makes a conscious decision to forward their current desire despite harm to others.
I've never read much about Vance. For the very reasons that Adam lays out in this piece, he's not appealed to me: a turncoat, someone who doesn't seem to have a shred of humanity within him, someone whose agenda doesn't appeal to me one whit. I'll never vote for him, I'll never vote for a member of a party that elevates him. I agree that this kind of transformation matters because it shows us how someone can be bought with the prospect of money and power dangled in front of them. And if someone is bought like that they ultimately will espouse any kind of cruelty to retain that money and power. Sounds like 1930s Germany and Italy, doesn't it?
For me that means that the GOP is absolutely finished for me. I would never vote GOP until the renounce people like Trump and Vance. And that goes all the way down the line to include local politics. Principles begin at home. If you can belong to a party that okays leaders that are as egregious as that, you're not a party that I want in power. The Democrats are flawed, yes, but line by line they reflect a country that is more in line with who I am: someone who doesn't think they are right all of the time, someone who believes that feeding and educating people is more important than building monuments.
God help us. Seriously. This whole bunch has sullied true Christianity and have sold their souls. The absence of empathy and humility is shameful. And they're dragging a whole bunch of people shackled to them right down into the pit with them.
My local book club made us read Hillbilly Elegy. He made us believe that he came from a holler and by being studious and taking advantages the government gave him, he made it to Yale. Democracy gave him the same opportunities he is taking away from his own people and the rest of us. Hypocrisy at its best. The sobriquet of “Chameleon” fits him well.
He has no core or conviction. I see him as a sad, mixed-up little boy who has no idea what he stands for really. And what IS with the eyeliner? He’s having his moment, but in general, I don’t think he has much charisma and anyone who likes what he says probably doesn’t like him. He’s just unlikable. Convenient that the former atheist “saw the light” and became Christian about the time he was hoping his political star was on the rise. It’s really kind of sad for a person to be that unmoored. I hope he leaves the political stage and retreats to a desert island to “work on himself” or something
And now it sounds like he's trying to convert his wife because he needs a Christian spouse in 2028. I wonder if that will finally be a bridge too far for her.
Totally understand. I have never seen him has a guy who knows himself, has any true self-identity. How can you with his family background: Mom with 5 husbands that he sometimes tolerated, sometimes didn't, hadn't met his own father until later in his life, saw his mother dragged down into drug addiction, stealing meds from the local hospital, and jailed for her addiction plus her violence towards him, grandma saving him, but setting fire to her husband for drinking. I mean the list goes on and on. I'm sure he loves his family, and granny gave him a relatively safe place away from drug-addled mom, but I've always felt that he has absolutely no idea who he is at any given time. I live close to and have worked in his community, worked for years with people from the Appalachian community, and they are very committed to each other; know who they are. I simply don't see that in him. He runs from it, and frankly, is ashamed of it. He first goes to Yale, married a woman from a wealthy family, then goes to venture capitalism in CA, then hooks up with weird Thiel, then decides on OH politics, then ass-licks Trump, who he formerly despised, and was quite vocal about it. The guy is absolutely clueless, and yes, a chameleon, but a very dangerous one. He will go with whomever gives him the highest bid, and I'm not sure that his beloved "mamaw" would think very much of that hypocrisy.
We support you because you did not sell your soul. You are a quality human being. Watched the Last Republican. It was fabulous. I just realized your secret- you have such a wonderful sense of humor! And a big heart to match.
How did you watch it, if I may ask? Last night I tried to get it from YouTube but was unsuccessful. I admit to having a near-total lack of experience with streaming and etc. as I live in a rural area and use satellite internet which is frequently too slow (or something) for streaming.
I subscribe to AppleTv to watch the series Slow Horses. So I rented the Last Republican there. I just Googled the Last Republican and there is a list on where you can watch it. I clicked on YouTube but you get a notice you need the app. I dont know if you need to be a paid subscriber but there is a small rental fee. I am also new to streaming so dont be hard on yourself. Let me know how it works out for you.
A shame to see so many people be willing to forego whatever human decency they have in order to facilitate their greed/lust for power.
A piece of human detritus by any other name is still a piece of garbage.

Please don't insult dogs. He acts like a mistreated dog, Micheal Vick style, but he chooses this behavior.
As a psychologist, I can’t help but wonder about his trauma. However, he is a grown ass adult, so also bears responsibility for it, as you noted.

Oh, and she taught how to apply eyeliner....
LOL!
😆
ewwwhhhh. his wife and family are pretty important to him. Erika may be in the hunt?
Are they important to him? The way he speaks about Usha, I don’t think she is. To be blunt, she would be if she were Christian, blonde and blue-eyed in his MAGA pursuits.
Erika fits exactly what will help him inherit the MAGA kingdom. Usha does not.

Very sad if he does treat her that way. He would lose her. Could be the spineless one is just window dressing for his bigoted base..
I cannot believe what these eyes see and what I hear. I just don't understand how others can swallow the crap they hear and see from this Administration
Because they want to, and that's all they listen to.
If all I ever watched was Faux "News", I'd think that trump was everything he isn't.
Yes Ian, it’s happed to my family members. It’s so sad, I can’t believe that don’t question when they hear and read.

I don't think it is eyeliner. I know another gentleman who has a similar look. It's their natural eyelashes.
Actually there are photos were he doesn’t have those dark lines under his eyes. 🤔
I was just making an observation; I'm not defending a single thing he does.
I know :)
Haha. Good point, Kathe. And I should do better. It’s a low blow to go after someone because of their looks. It’s what Trump does!🤣
He is also selling out his wife and children. His wife and children have brown skin and Usha is Hindu. What a man’
I hope and pray that Americans have had ENOUGH of these lunatics after Donald is gone.
CHOOSE BETWEEN VANCE AND DJT JR?
RAYJER BLOW MY BRAINS OUT.
Thank you so much for keeping us informed!
Adam Kinzinger for President!!!
